Public safety networks get judged by the moments they are needed, not the days they sit idle.

On National First Responders Day, thank you to the people who answer the call, and to the network teams who plan for failure so dispatchers never have to think about it.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office took that approach with their radio network: https://buff.ly/KvZuIrT

How does your agency plan for redundancy on the backhaul side?

One week until WISPAPALOOZA.

Ryan Tisdale and Nicole White will be at Booth 305 in Las Vegas, ready to talk through your network. SAF has spent 25 years focused on wireless, with customers in 130 countries, and that experience goes to the booth with them.

If you have not looked at Integra-X lately, or you want a first conversation about what is coming in the FreeMile series, put Booth 305 on your list for November 2 to 5.

Who else is heading to Las Vegas?

SAF colleagues are among the Chipathon 2026 winners 🏆

Last weekend, RTU hosted Chipathon 2026, a digital chip design event organised by the Latvian Microchip Competence Centre with Tiny Tapeout and partners, including SAF Tehnika. Around 80 participants developed almost 50 chip projects in three days.

Our Aranet R&D colleagues Marks Hansons, Roberts Jakovels, Nikita Jeļeckis and Maksims Latkovskis formed “Team Fred” together with Artjoms, a fellow participant from the industry. They built a hardware accelerator for encryption in a recently adopted protocol that is resistant to decryption by quantum computers. The prototype performed encryption 2.5 times faster by taking the most time-consuming computation off the main processor.

The project was named one of the top five. The team wins a development board with their own chip, and the design will go to manufacturing through Tiny Tapeout after further refinement.

Well done, guys. We are proud of you.

A link that drops and a signal nobody can trace are two problems every critical network knows well.

SAF Tehnika will be at Mission Critical Communications Expo in Kista, Stockholm on 17 November, Booth A:16. Our team will be there to talk about how critical communications networks stay connected and how to find what is getting in their way.

If you work on a network where downtime is not an option, we would like to hear what you are dealing with.

What is the hardest link to keep up on your network?

You can try the Spectrum Compact interface without owning the device.

Our upgraded Spectrum Compact pages on saftehnika.com now put the product overview, a free virtual demo and application pages together under Test & Measurement. The demo mimics the device interface, so you can practice setting frequency, span and markers before you are standing at a site. The application pages cover antenna alignment, DAS optimization, smart grid connectivity and more.

Have a look when you have a few minutes: https://saftehnika.com/business-lines/test-measurement

Links tend to run out of headroom right when the network starts to grow.

SAF will be at WISPAPALOOZA in Las Vegas, November 2 to 5, at Booth 305. Ryan Tisdale and Nicole White will be there with Integra-X, our high-capacity outdoor radio, and they will also show you what is coming next in the FreeMile series.

If you have a project coming up or a network challenge worth talking through, stop by Booth 305.

Which link in your network would you upgrade first?

Disasters do not wait for infrastructure to catch up. That is the point behind this year’s International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction theme, “Resilience Starts at Home.”

A warning only protects a household if it actually arrives. Getting it there falls to public safety agencies, and for them, home is the local radio network. Dispatchers, first responders, EMS crews, and emergency managers depend on it when commercial infrastructure does not hold up.

To everyone who keeps those networks running and answers the call: thank you.

Douglas County, Colorado built its public safety radio network on SAF microwave with exactly this in mind. It is designed for 99.9999% reliability and can lose a site without dropping communications. Read how it holds up: https://buff.ly/yZdnHou

Resilience may start at home, but it depends on networks built to hold up before the day they are tested.

How does your team plan for communications when the commercial network goes down?

Turns out the SAF Tehnika team is really good at Bingo.

We found out last week at Riga Zoo’s second annual Krustvecāku diena (Godparents Day). We started at the Zinarium educational house, where our wireless sensors keep an eye on the environment. The presentation there doubled as a round of Bingo, and we went home with a suspicious number of prizes. Then came some role playing games.

After that, the main event: a visit to our goddaughter Sirsniņa, a dwarf crocodile in the Tropical House. As Platinum Sponsors, we know the rule: you don’t visit a croc empty handed. She got a big metal tub of fresh fish.

Sirsniņa means “little heart” in Latvian. A nice match for our motto: tech company with a human heart.

Thank you, Riga Zoo, for a great day!

One week until the UBBA Summit & Plugfest in Fort Worth.

Bringing a microwave trunk route? Your existing interfaces, availability targets and path details are all we need to start talking replacement options. Martins Dzelde and Glenn Garbinski will be at booth #2, 12 to 15 October, with our Spectrum Compact portable spectrum analyzer for a closer look.

Which legacy interface is hardest to retire in your network: T1, OC-3/STM-1, or something else?
