Another important step in our KUKA robotic milling project — calibrating the Tool Center Point (TCP) using the 4-point method.
The robot approaches the same reference point from four different orientations. Using these positions, the KUKA controller calculates the exact TCP position of the milling tool relative to the robot fl**ge.
For robotic milling, accurate TCP calibration is critical. Even a small error can affect:
• Machining accuracy
• Toolpath positioning
• Surface quality
• Robot orientation during milling
• CAD/CAM simulation accuracy
After calibration, the programmed tool tip in our CAM system corresponds accurately with the real milling tool tip on the robot.
One more step toward getting our KUKA KR210 ready for machining. ⚙️🔥
