The Marine Geology and Seafloor Surveying group at the Department of Geosciences, University of Malta, undertakes multidisciplinary studies of seafloor and sub-seafloor environments. The Marine Geology and Seafloor Surveying group undertakes multidisciplinary studies of seafloor and sub-seafloor environments using advanced mapping and observational techniques. We combine well-established strategie

s with innovative data, concepts and methodologies from geology, geomorphology, sedimentology, geophysics and engineering to address long-standing and fundamental questions in marine geosciences. Our work has applications ranging from hazard assessment, palaeo-environmental reconstruction, resource assessment and management, and ocean governance, among others.

Join our COST Action on offshore freshened groundwater and its potential use as an unconventional source of potable water:

https://off-source.eu/

We are looking for scientists, students, industry professionals and regulators, among others.

Freshwater resources in coastal regions are under enormous stress due to population growth, pollution, climate change and political conflicts, and many coastal cities have already suffered extreme water shortages.

AquaINFRA is a new project that will support the ongoing development of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) as an overarching research infrastructure. The overall objective of the 4-year project is to develop the AquaINFRA Interaction Platform equipped with FAIR multi-disciplinary data and services to support marine and freshwater scientists and stakeholders in restoring healthy oceans, coastal and inland waters:

Thanks Brad Weymer for leading this paper on the poorly understood groundwater exchange in the coastal transition zone.

Improvements in coastal shallow water geophysical technologies and drilling must be coupled with numerical modelling in order to close the knowledge gaps that exist around coastal aquifers, suggests a synthesis of methodological challenges and future possibilities.
