🌿 Welcoming Green Talent to Ecostack Innovations

As part of the GREEN TALENT project, the cross‑sectoral Exchange aims to promote career development and knowledge transfer across disciplines, hence, building the capacity and partnerships needed for systematic solutions to the climate and biodiversity crises.

This month, we are delighted to welcome Chiara, a PhD candidate from the University of Trento to Ecostack Innovations. Her research focuses on private green spaces in urban areas.

During her two‑month secondment with us in Malta, Chiara will continue deepening her research by exploring the relationship between socio‑economic factors, ecosystem condition, and ecosystem services in the Maltese context. We are excited to support her work and to contribute to the broader knowledge ecosystem that GREEN TALENT is building.

Looking ahead to GREEN TALENT 2026, we anticipate even more secondments and cross‑sectoral exchanges that will strengthen collaboration and accelerate innovation for nature‑positive futures.

Last week at the 6th Europe Conference in Prague, we had the opportunity to connect with scientists, policymakers, practitioners, and other stakeholders committed to advancing ecosystem services knowledge for a nature‑ and people‑positive Europe.

We were also pleased to feature the GREEN TALENT project and GoGreenNext through our presentation on governance and knowledge gaps and opportunities in pollinator and pollination ecosystem services conservation in Malta and on A systematic review exploring the biodiversity–climate–health nexus within cities.

As partners in the SELINA (Horizon Europe) and SMILES COST ACTION projects, it was also a pleasure to meet our colleagues in person and exchange insights on our shared research.

These were just part of the many valuable insights presented during the conference. From research to policy, we are proud to contribute to this collective journey.

🔎 LURM-4-TRAP is a project on Land-Use Regression Model for Traffic-Related Air Pollution.

Funded by European Space Agency - ESA, LURM-4-TRAP aims to predict air pollution across Malta at a fine spatial resolution of 100x100 m.

This data matters because it reveals where people in Malta are most exposed to NO₂ and PM₂.₅ from traffic, giving local councils and communities the evidence they need to advocate for safer, healthier environments, while also providing policymakers with evidence-based insights for targeted air pollution mitigation efforts. Better data means better decisions for everyone!

At Ecostack Innovations, we aim to establish a scalable methodology that can be applied to other urban environments beyond Malta.

📣 We are proud to be one of the 33 selected sessions at the International Congress 2026!

Organized by the Nature-based Solutions - French research program and NetworkNature EU, in collaboration with UNPplus EU, Biodiversa+, Sorbonne Université, and the City of Paris, the Congress will serve as a global meeting point for researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and local and regional actors working at the interface of nature and society.

Contributing to the shared ambition of strengthening knowledge-to-action and action-to-knowledge pathways, Ecostack Innovations will host the workshop, with our experienced team members Sara F. Camilleri and Mario V. Balzan guiding the session:

Building on the ongoing knowledge integration and capacity-building efforts in the GoGreenNext and GREEN TALENT project, this workshop is designed as a collaborative, hands-on session, moving beyond discussing barriers and towards identifying what works in practice. Together with participants, we aim to produce a "Replication Blueprints" that captures key lessons for transferring and scaling NbS across governance levels and territorial contexts.
