Chief Secretary to the Government, Dr. Justin Saidi, today visited the Mpatamanga Hydropower Project in Neno District to appreciate progress on the 358‑megawatt development, in which EGENCO holds a 30% shareholding on behalf of the Government of Malawi.
During the visit, Dr. Saidi commended the steady progress of the project and assured Malawians of Government’s full support to ensure its timely completion.

Speaking on the sidelines of the visit, EGENCO Chief Executive Officer, Mr. William Liabunya, said the company has been actively involved in the project since its inception, adding that once completed, Mpatamanga will nearly double Malawi’s current hydroelectric generation capacity and significantly enhance national energy security.

We will be conducting weekend sediment flushing operations at all our major hydropower stations to remove accumulated silt and debris from the intakes. These maintenance works will take place every weekend until June 2026 and are essential for improving water flow and maintaining efficient power generation.
