Basic Rules for the Ethical Use of AI (For Everyone):
1. Ask Yourself: Do I know I’m talking to an AI?
Rule: Be clear about whether you're interacting with a person or a computer program. If you don’t know—ask!
2. Not everything AI says is 100% true.
Rule: AI can make mistakes or invent things. Always verify important information from other sources.
3.Protect your personal information and that of others.
Rule: Don’t share personal data—yours or others’ (for example, names, addresses, phone numbers, passwords, credit card numbers, private information, or even photos)—with AI unless you’re a security expert and know it won’t be disclosed.
4.If something seems unfair, speak up!
Rule: If you feel that an AI decision is treating you unfairly (for example, when applying for credit or a job), seek help and question the decision.
5. AI is a tool—not your boss (nor your friend, nor a replacement for professionals like your therapist, doctor, or lawyer).
Rule: AI can assist and guide you, but the final decision is always yours. Don’t let AI make important decisions for you. Also, seek professional advice to solve serious problems.
6. Be respectful when using it.
Rule: Don’t use AI to harm others, spread false information, or generate inappropriate content. Use common sense and ethics.
7. If something goes wrong, who do I ask?
Rule: If AI makes a serious mistake or causes a real problem, there should be someone you can ask or file a complaint with. Always look for support or contact from the responsible party.
8. AI learns from what it sees.
Rule: Remember that AI works with large amounts of information. The more fair and diverse that information is, the better AI will behave. You are part of that interaction—be responsible in sharing quality information.
9. Use AI for good.
Rule: Think about how AI can help you or your community in a positive way—to be more efficient, learn new things, or solve problems. Otherwise, you might break laws or usage rules, which could lead to issues with people, organizations, or authorities.
10. AI must be safe.
Rule: Developers and users of AI must ensure that it is safe and does not put you at risk. If you’re unsure about an AI’s safety, don’t use it.
Note: These rules are inspired by the principles, guidelines, and responsibilities established for the use of AI by UNESCO, the OECD, the European Union, and the UN, with support from Gemini and ChatGPT, as well as human oversight and correction.
