1. Personal ID & Security
• [ ] Photo ID: A valid U.S. Driver’s License or State ID for you (and your spouse).
• [ ] SSN/ITIN: Social Security cards for everyone on the return (kids included!).
• [ ] Identity Protection PIN: If the IRS sent you a 6-digit IP PIN via mail, you must have it to file.
• [ ] Last Year’s Return: You will need your 2024 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) to "sign" your electronic return.
2. Income Documents (The "Paperwork")
• [ ] W-2s: From every job you had in 2025.
• [ ] 1099 Forms: * 1099-G: For unemployment benefits.
• 1099-INT/DIV: For interest or dividends from your bank/apps.
• 1099-K: If you sold over $20,000 in goods or services via apps like Venmo/PayPal.
• 1099-NEC: For freelance or "gig" work.
3. Expense & Deduction Records
• [ ] Form 1098-T: For college tuition payments.
• [ ] Childcare Records: Provider’s name, address, and Tax ID (SSN or EIN).
• [ ] 1095-A: If you have Health Insurance through the Marketplace.
• [ ] Donation Receipts: For any charitable giving over $250.
4. The "Get Paid" Details
• [ ] Bank Routing Number: (9 digits)
• [ ] Bank Account Number: * Note: Double-check these! In 2026, if your direct deposit is rejected, the IRS may freeze the refund for 30 days before mailing a check.
