Engineering the Future of Mobility at GATE 2026

CREST was pleased to participate in GATE 2026, where CREST CEO Ts Jaffri Ibrahim joined the panel discussion on Engineering the Future of Mobility: AI, Software-Defined Vehicles, Power Electronics & Advanced Validation Readiness.

The conversation highlighted how mobility is rapidly evolving beyond the traditional vehicle.
Today’s vehicle is increasingly becoming a computer, an energy system and an AI platform on wheels, enabled by semiconductors, software, AI, connectivity and advanced power electronics.

As this complexity grows, so does the importance of simulation, digital twins, testing, functional safety, cybersecurity and continuous validation.

For Malaysia and ASEAN, the opportunity extends beyond manufacturing. We need to strengthen our capabilities to design, engineer, integrate, validate and commercialise the technologies shaping the next generation of mobility.

This requires a connected ecosystem — bringing together industry, academia, R&D institutions, talent and technology companies.

As Mr Jaffri highlighted, the next phase of competitiveness is not simply about who can manufacture the products of the future, but who can engineer and innovate the systems behind them.

From manufacturing strength to engineering and innovation leadership — this is the opportunity ahead for ASEAN.

Strengthening Malaysia’s Semiconductor and High-Tech Manufacturing Ecosystem

CREST was pleased to join YB Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) during his working visit to key semiconductor and automotive companies in Penang and Kedah.

CREST CEO, Ts. Jaffri Ibrahim, participated in the visit, which provided valuable insights into Malaysia’s growing technological capabilities, investment developments and opportunities to further strengthen our domestic industrial ecosystem.

The visit to SilTerra Malaysia, Infineon Technologies Malaysia, Inari Amerton and Inokom Corporation highlighted the depth and diversity of Malaysia’s manufacturing ecosystem — from wafer fabrication and wide band-gap semiconductor technologies to automotive assembly and supply chain development.

For CREST, the visit also reinforced the importance of industry-driven R&D, talent development and strong industry-academia collaboration in building Malaysia’s next generation of high-value technology capabilities.

Through our collaboration with industry leaders such as SilTerra, Infineon, Inari Amertron and Micron Technology, CREST continues to support the development of industry-ready talent and accelerate innovation in strategic areas including GaN and Wide Bandgap semiconductors, advanced packaging, power electronics, advanced manufacturing and EV technologies.

These collaborations demonstrate that building a globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem goes beyond investment and manufacturing capacity — it requires sustained collaboration across industry, academia and government to develop the technologies, talent and capabilities needed for long-term growth.

CREST remains committed to playing its role as an industry-driven platform supporting Malaysia’s aspirations under the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS) and NIMP 2030.

Every breakthrough in the semiconductor industry begins with something surprisingly simple — a conversation.

This week, CREST continued strengthening Malaysia's semiconductor ecosystem through strategic engagements with STMicroelectronics NV Malaysia in Muar, Johor, and the Smart Manufacturing Technology Centre (SMTC), Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM).

While the destinations were different, the mission remained the same: bringing together industry and academia to build a stronger, more resilient semiconductor ecosystem for Malaysia.
From exploring next-generation Panel Level Packaging (PLP) technologies and discussing future-ready talent through the Engineering Talent for Semiconductor Industry (ETSI) programme, to exchanging ideas on Advanced Packaging, Advanced Materials, research collaboration, and ESG readiness for local industries, every discussion reinforced one belief:

"No single organisation can build a globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem alone. But together, we can accelerate innovation, nurture talent, strengthen industry capabilities, and create lasting economic value for Malaysia".

We're grateful to our hosts for the warm hospitality, insightful discussions and openness to future collaboration. We look forward to turning today's conversations into tomorrow's impactful partnerships.

Because sometimes, the most valuable output from a meeting isn't what's on the presentation slides—it's what everyone decides to build together afterwards.

Together, we engineer Malaysia's semiconductor future.
