Building Malaysia’s Next Generation of Semiconductor Champions

How can Malaysia turn its semiconductor strengths into globally competitive companies that develop their own technologies, own valuable IP, and bring innovative products to market?

Ts. Jaffri Ibrahim, CEO of CREST, joined the panel discussion “Accelerating the Next Generation of Semiconductor Startups”, sharing perspectives on strengthening industry–academia collaboration, bridging the gap between R&D and commercialisation, and creating stronger pathways for Malaysian semiconductor startups to scale.

The conversation highlighted an important priority: moving beyond technical innovation alone to build sustainable businesses through customer engagement, industry partnerships, access to critical design and validation capabilities, and a clear path to commercialisation.

Through its industry-led collaboration model, CREST continues to connect government, industry and academia to strengthen Malaysia’s semiconductor ecosystem and support the development of homegrown capabilities, intellectual property and globally competitive enterprises.

From Funding to Scale: Accelerating the Next Generation of Semicon Startups

CREST is pleased to share that Ts. Jaffri Ibrahim, CEO of CREST, will be speaking at AiSEM @ Selangor on 15 October 2026 at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur.

Under the theme “Designed-by-Malaysia: Building a Globally Competitive AI Semiconductor Ecosystem,” the session will explore how Malaysia can accelerate the growth of semiconductor startups — from securing the right funding and developing innovative technologies to commercialisation, market access and global scale.

As Malaysia strengthens its semiconductor and AI capabilities, collaboration across industry, investors, research institutions and government will be key to turning homegrown innovation into globally competitive businesses.

Helping SMEs Go Digital and Scale Up!

What does it take for SMEs to stay competitive in a rapidly changing business landscape? The right technology, stronger capabilities and access to the right opportunities.

CREST brought together SMEs and ecosystem partners for the CREST SME Digitalisation & AI Scale-Up Programme – Series 5 on 13 October 2026 at the CREST Office in Penang.

💡 Participants explored opportunities in digitalisation, SME development, business financing, technology adoption and Industry 4.0, with contributions from SME Corp. Malaysia, NCER Malaysia, MIDF and Dassault Systèmes.

In his closing remarks, Ts. Jaffri Ibrahim, CEO of CREST, encouraged SMEs to move beyond adopting technology and focus on creating real business value, strengthening competitiveness and preparing for future industry opportunities.

Strengthening Collaboration Across Malaysia’s Semiconductor Ecosystem

CREST, together with Universiti Teknologi Petronas - Main Page and the NCER Malaysia, co-organised the Semiconductor Industry Strategic Engagement under the theme:

“Unleashing the Semiconductor Growth Potential: Innovation and Technologies Value Co-Creation.”

The engagement brought together leaders and stakeholders from the semiconductor industry, academia, research institutions and the wider technology and innovation ecosystem to exchange perspectives on Malaysia’s semiconductor landscape and opportunities for greater value creation.

Discussions covered key areas including industry challenges and emerging priorities, moving up the semiconductor value chain, innovation and technology, venture creation and scale-up, as well as talent and future capabilities.

The programme also featured focused group discussions aimed at identifying practical opportunities for collaboration and collective action across the ecosystem.

As a co-organiser, CREST remains committed to connecting industry, academia, research institutions and ecosystem partners to support technology development, talent advancement and innovation-led growth across Malaysia’s semiconductor and E&E ecosystem.

We are pleased to invite you to the WBG Technology Academy, a 3-day programme jointly organised by Infineon, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and CREST, taking place from 13–15 October 2026 at USM, Penang.

The programme will provide participants with insights into the latest developments in Wide Bandgap (WBG) semiconductor technologies, covering high-voltage device physics, SiC and GaN power devices, WBG wafer materials and processing technologies, as well as semiconductor talent development, industry needs and Malaysia’s semiconductor innovation ecosystem. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn from industry and academic experts, explore research through poster presentations, participate in networking sessions and experience a laboratory tour.

A successful showcase of Malaysia’s semiconductor strength at KL20@Penang 2026!

Yesterday, CREST had the privilege of leading the VIP Walkabout at the KL20@Penang exhibition, bringing attention to the capabilities, innovations and ambitions of Malaysia’s technology ecosystem.

With more than 50 companies participating, including around 26 companies representing different segments of the semiconductor value chain, the exhibition provided a strong platform to showcase the depth and diversity of Malaysia’s semiconductor and E&E ecosystem.

From design and EDA, advanced manufacturing and equipment, to emerging technologies and innovative solutions, the showcase demonstrated how local companies, startups and SMEs are contributing to a more connected, resilient and globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem.

For CREST, this is more than an exhibition. It is about connecting capabilities, creating opportunities and strengthening collaboration across the ecosystem so that Malaysian companies can move from innovation to commercialisation and scale.
