The Polka Dot Grouper is a striking reef fish known for its white body covered in bold black spots. It lives in warm coral reefs, especially in the Indo-Pacific region. This species is a carnivorous predator, feeding on smaller fish and crustaceans. Its strong body and large mouth help it ambush prey easily. Juveniles often hide among corals for protection. Polka dot groupers play an important role in maintaining reef ecosystem balance and biodiversity.

The Mandarin fish is a small, brightly colored reef species known for its stunning patterns and vibrant hues. Found in warm Indo-Pacific waters, it prefers shallow lagoons and coral reefs. Unlike many fish, it secretes a toxic mucus for protection. Mandarin fish feed on tiny crustaceans and plankton. They are shy and slow-moving but highly territorial. Their unique mating dance occurs at dusk, making them a favorite among underwater photographers and marine life enthusiasts.

📚 IMB NEW BOOK RELEASE📯📯

We are excited to announce the release of Groupers of Sabah: Ecology, Conservation and Aquaculture, authored by Dr Achier Chung, Assoc. Prof. Dr Zarinah Waheed, and Assoc. Prof. Dr Annita Yong Seok Kian.

This beautifully produced coffee table book showcases Sabah’s most charismatic reef fishes—groupers—highlighting their ecological importance and their value as a prized seafood resource. Through remarkable underwater photography, readers are taken into the natural habitats of these fascinating fish, revealing their diversity, behaviour, and vital roles within coral reef ecosystems.

Beyond the stunning visuals, the book also explores critical issues surrounding the unsustainable harvest of groupers, particularly to supply the Live Reef Food Fish Trade (LRFFT). It highlights the urgent need for responsible fisheries management while presenting promising sustainable aquaculture innovations that can help reduce pressure on wild populations.

By combining science with captivating imagery, this book aims to inspire a deeper appreciation of groupers and the marine ecosystems they support, while encouraging stronger commitment toward their conservation and the protection of our future seafood security.

First day as delivery rider… somehow managed to control life and death of a S$1,500 arowana.

The assignment got cancelled because of an app glitch.

Instead of returning the fish to the farm… the fish went on a 4-hour luxury staycation inside the car.

End result? The dragon fish checked out earlier than expected.

Then things got even more creative.

Instead of informing the customer or the farm… the fish was sent on its final express delivery via the HDB rubbish chute.

When police later asked what happened, the explanation was simple:
“Returned to the farm.”

Unfortunately Singapore also got something else very powerful.

CCTV.

Court eventually fined him $2,000 after he pleaded guilty to mischief causing the fish’s death and lying to police.

If you were the customer who paid $1,500 for a dragon fish, what would you expect?

A) Honest mistake — just compensate and move on
😎 Rider should be more responsible with live animals
C) The real culprit is the app glitch
D) Somewhere in Singapore, a void deck dragon fish spirit still swimming

Discuss nicely.
