Today signifies the end of the 15-days Chinese New Year celebrations. Chap Goh Mei, which literally means the fifteenth day in the Hokkien dialect, is commonly celebrated by the Chinese community in Malaysia😍.
May you have bountiful prosperity, good health, peace, and a blessed year ahead🤗
Fun Fact:
Did you know that Chap Goh Meh (CGM) or Lantern Festival Day, is also referred to as Chinese Valentine’s Day? CGM used to be the day in which the ancient match-making tradition took place.
Like other celebrations, there are many stories about CGM traditions. One of the interesting folklore stories is about how CGM used to be the ancient version of “Tinder”. Back then, young girls were mostly forbidden to go outside except for a temple visit during CGM times. Given the rare opportunity, the men will make full use of the time to catch a glimpse of these lovely maidens😆
Additionally, during the olden days, young unmarried women will throw mandarin oranges into the lakes and rivers on the night of CGM in hope of finding their true love. A person’s true love could be as we all know of the stereotypes – the perfect match, or it could be as we may also as couples who exemplify the “opposites attract” concept.
The idea of “opposites attract” was first posited in psychology by Robert Francis Winch, who studied spouses in the 1950s and came to the conclusion that it wasn’t similarities that made a relationship work — rather, it was complementarity🤩
The same goes for having partially matched bone marrow together with matched cord blood stem cells in order to have a potentially successful stem cell transplant.**
**Some studies have shown that haplo-cord transplants, where a partially matched bone marrow (haploidentical) is transplanted together with a matched cord blood into a patient, resulted in a better health outcome compared to when they are being used alone. Read more here: http://bit.ly/3JhEUdY
