Congratulations to Ir Dr Low Liang Ee of Monash University Malaysia, recipient of the 2026 Dr Ranjeet Bhagwan Singh (RBS) Medical Research Grant. His research explores smart nanoparticles that target tumours and generate heat to destroy cancer cells more precisely while limiting damage to healthy tissue in cancer treatment.

The award was presented by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, YB Datuk Chang Lih Kang. The RBS Medical Research Grant carries forward Dr Ranjeet Bhagwan Singh’s legacy by supporting young scientists to pursue impactful medical and biomedical research.

At the same event, the 2026 RBS Annual Memorial Forum, themed “AI-Enabled Healthcare for Smarter Solutions and Well-Being,” explored how emerging technologies can strengthen healthcare through responsible and trusted implementation.

As part of efforts to support the National Mission-Oriented Initiative (MOI) on Empowerment of Digital Healthcare, ASM is pursuing the Malaysia OHDSI Chapter with the Ministry of Health Malaysia, particularly the National Institutes of Health, and linked with the Malaysia Open Science Platform to promote common health data standards and responsible data-driven research and innovation.

In conjunction with the National Climate Governance Summit (NCGS) 2026, the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) held a courtesy meeting with Dr Hoesung Lee, President of the Carbon Free Alliance and former Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), on 4 August 2026 at Sasana Kijang.

The meeting provided an opportunity for ASM to share Malaysia’s National Planetary Health Action Plan (NPHAP), which recognises the interconnectedness of human health, environmental sustainability and economic prosperity. The discussion also explored potential collaboration in science-informed climate governance, sustainable transition and resilience, as well as leadership and capacity building.

ASM extends its appreciation to Climate Governance Malaysia for facilitating this valuable opportunity to engage with Dr Lee and exchange perspectives on advancing coordinated, science-based climate action.
