(PHILIPPINES) Alsons Consolidated Resources Inc. expects two solar projects with a combined capacity of 173.7 megawatts to be completed by 2027 as part of the company’s renewable energy expansion program.
“We have been actively advancing our renewable energy development program, conducting feasibility and interconnection studies for solar and integrated energy storage projects across General Santos City, Sarangani Province, and other locations in Mindanao and the Visayas,” Alsons chairman Nicasio Alcantara said during the company’s annual stockholders meeting.
He said the most advanced of these projects is the 75-megawatt Bawing Solar project in General Santos City, which started construction in May and has a target commercial operations date of June 2027.
Alcantara said they are also preparing to actively participate in the Green Energy Auction Program, which provides a structured and competitive pathway for new renewable energy capacity.
He said the company is also developing the 98.7-megawatt SPPC solar facility in Sarangani province, which won in the 4th round of the GEA, with a delivery date of Sept 2027.
“This is an important milestone for ACR, as it marks our formal entry into the government’s renewable energy auction program and validates the commercial viability of our solar program,” Alcantara said.
Alsons remains focused on expanding its power portfolio to help meet the rising power demand across Mindanao and throughout the country. Alena Mae S. Flores
It believes that stable, reliable and affordable power is essential to driving economic growth and supporting national development.
“As the economy grows, demand for reliable and sufficient power will continue to rise. Electricity remains essential in supporting industries, businesses, infrastructure, and communities, while also helping attract investments,” said Antonio Miguel Alcantara, Alsons chief executive.
Alsons continues to strengthen its operations and invest in renewable technologies, particularly in solar and hydropower projects, to help support the growing energy requirements of Mindanao and beyond.
The company is advancing studies on a hybrid technology and battery energy storage system, or BESS, for its conventional power plants in Zamboanga and Iligan to further enhance operational capability, flexibility and competitiveness across both the energy and reserve markets.
Aside from solar power facilities, Alsons has hydropower projects under its asset portfolio. In 2024, the company commenced operations of its first hydropower project, the 14.5-megawatt Siguil Hydro Power Plant in Sarangani.
The company also continues to expand its participation in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, ancillary services and retail electricity supply business as it positions itself for long-term growth amid rising power demand.
