KKR MOVE ON Group of Companies | A Milestone for Bangladesh’s Energy Sector

We are pleased to share that a USD 1 billion financing agreement has been signed for the modernization and expansion of the Eastern Refinery, in the presence of BNP Chairman and Prime Minister-designate Mr. Tarique Rahman and Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group.

The agreement was signed today, 3 September 2026, at the Bangladesh Secretariat. On behalf of the Government of Bangladesh, Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman, Additional Secretary of the Economic Relations Division, signed the agreement, while Mr. Anani Aisami, Director General (Country Programs), signed on behalf of the IsDB Group.

The project will expand the refinery’s capacity to process an additional 3 million metric tons of crude oil annually. Once implemented, it is expected to help meet approximately 45–50% of Bangladesh’s demand for petroleum products, strengthening the country’s energy security and reducing dependence on imported refined fuel.

Following the signing, Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Tarique Rahman. The meeting focused on Bangladesh’s development priorities, economic growth, investment opportunities, infrastructure development, and strengthening cooperation between Bangladesh and the IsDB Group.
