A recent study revealed that more than 21 million metric tons of microplastics may be floating within the top 200 meters of the Atlantic Ocean—far higher than previous estimates.

Researchers sampled water across a 10,000 km North–South transect and found the most common microplastics were polyethylene, polypropylene, and polystyrene—materials widely used in everyday packaging.

The danger doesn’t stop in the ocean. Fish that ingest microplastics can suffer internal injuries, while toxic chemicals attached to these particles may accumulate in their tissues. As these pollutants move up the food chain, they can eventually reach our dinner plates.

Microplastics have now been detected in many fish species, both wild and farmed. This is no longer just an environmental issue—it is a human health issue.

Reducing single-use plastics, improving waste management, and choosing sustainable alternatives are small actions that can help protect our oceans and future generations.

On 16 June 2026, HZ Group proudly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hotpack Global, represented by its Managing Director and Founder, Mr. Abdul Jebbar P. B. This strategic partnership marks the beginning of a collaboration that brings together eco-innovation and regional industry expertise to advance the future of sustainable packaging.

Held at our facility, the event was officiated by our CEO, Dato' Dr. Donald Yap, and attended by distinguished guests, including Dato' Mohamad Haris Kader Sultan, Chief Executive of the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA), and Mr. Mohd Faizal Hizam bin Mat Supri, Assistant Director at the MIDA Penang office (Malaysian Investment Development Authority).

The occasion also celebrated the soft opening of HZ Paper Serviceware Sdn. Bhd. (HZPS) and HZP Eco Packaging Sdn. Bhd. (HZPE), marking another significant milestone in HZ Group's expansion and reaffirming our commitment to sustainable manufacturing.

Guests were treated to a guided factory tour, featuring an introduction to our Dry Molded Fiber (DMF) technology developed by PulPac AB, Sweden, and paper cups production along with a showcase of our advanced production capabilities and commitment to environmental sustainability.
