Is electric aircraft practical?
From just a brief, wobbly and short 6km flight, aeroplanes have gone through many transformations. Change is inevitable and the world now is more focused on sustainability. Air travel produced more than 900 million tons of CO2 every year which translate to 12% of the world transport sector.
Thus, the alternative is electric aircraft. For now, it may have many flaws but we believe that with rapid technology and R&D, electric aircraft would be the next flying option.
SKYE Innovation and SKYE Technologies are doing just that now. We aim to bring this technology to Malaysia and be the catalyst of electric aircraft in this region.

Small regional flights will soon start going electric but batteries are unlikely to ever fully power large airliners.

A significant amount of our day-to-day activities involve advanced technology to some degree. As a result, many of our industries have become reliant upon tech solutions, meaning that -proficient workers are essential.

One component that is crucial in preparing STEM students with the necessary skill is technology. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are an excellent way to introduce STEM students to building and maintaining technology.

With this in mind, the National STEM Association Malaysia Chapter is organising a webinar on Drone In STEM. SKYE Innovation Bhd AVE Director/Specialist Muhammad Noor Afiq Azhari is one of the speakers and he will provide the technical details on the workings of drones. Drones have various component parts, each can often be replaced, modified, and customized to meet the user’s needs.

The webinar will be held on 5th June (Saturday) from 10am to 3pm. It is opened to all and free registration.

Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo rocket plane crossed its 50-mile-high space boundary over New Mexico for the first time after months of challenges.

The twin-fuselage Eve made an airplane-style takeoff from Spaceport America with Unity bolted to its underbelly. Around the target altitude of 44,000 feet, Unity was released from its mothership and fired up its hybrid rocket engine to rise spaceward.

It is not only Blood Moon, tonight's total lunar eclipse will also be a supermoon!

A supermoon happens when the full moon coincides with the moon's closest approach to Earth in its orbit. Supermoons make the moon appear a little brighter and closer than normal, although the difference is hard to spot with the naked eye.

Nothing in this world was a product of 'a freak accident'

A conclusion published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters showed two profound implications.

“It was thought that the Milky Way’s thin and thick discs formed after a rare violent merger, and so probably wouldn’t be found in other spiral galaxies,” said Dr Scott.

“Our research shows that’s probably wrong, and it evolved ‘naturally’ without catastrophic interventions. This means Milky Way-type galaxies are probably very common.

“It also means we can use existing very detailed observations of the Milky Way as tools to better analyze much more distant galaxies which, for obvious reasons, we can’t see as well.”

Tomorrow, Wednesday, 26 May 2021, we in Malaysia, will experience a total lunar eclipse. It is the first lunar eclipse this year.

A total lunar eclipse is also known as the blood moon. It is called a blood moon due to its reddish colour, which is caused by Earth completely blocking direct sunlight from reaching the Moon.

A lunar eclipse occurs only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are exactly or very closely aligned (in syzygy) with Earth between the other two, and only on the night of a full moon.

In Kuala Lumpur, it will start at 19.19pm and last for two hours. Hopefully, the weather permits us to experience the blood moon. Get your cameras out and ready.
