A Remarkable Success: Engineering Team Project Exhibition (ETPx) 2026

We are pleased to share the success of the Engineering Team Project Exhibition (ETPx) 2026, held on 2 April 2026 at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP).

The exhibition brought together multidisciplinary student teams who showcased the outcomes of their hard work, creativity, and collaboration. The event was filled with energy as students presented their engineering solutions through demonstrations, displays, and presentations.

We were also honored to have industry evaluators who provided valuable insights, constructive feedback, and real-world perspectives, strengthening the link between academia and industry.

This event highlighted the importance of hands-on learning, teamwork, and innovation, reflecting UTP’s commitment to developing future-ready engineers.

1 April 2026 – Visit to OTC 2026 by IMechE UTP Student Chapter

The IMechE UTP Student Chapter successfully organized an educational visit to OTC 2026, led by Puan Yasmin Rafidah Wafa Sy Farid N Wafa
, with a total of 44 participants.

The visit provided valuable exposure to the latest advancements, technologies, and industry trends in the oil and gas sector. It also served as a platform for students to engage with industry professionals, expand their networks, and gain insights into real-world engineering practices.

The MSc Viva-Voce Session for Mohammed Abdulmalek Musaed Al-fakih was successfully conducted on 25 February 2026 under the MSc in Mechanical Engineering programme at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS.

The candidate presented and defended his thesis titled “Development and Evaluation of Hybrid Fibers Reinforced Nano Fillers Toughened Epoxy Composites for Wind Energy Application,” contributing valuable research towards advanced composite materials for renewable energy applications.

The session was chaired by AP Dr Shahrul Kamaruddin, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zulkiflle Leman (Universiti Putra Malaysia) serving as the External Examiner and AP Ir Ts Dr Yew Ming Chian as the Internal Examiner. The research was supervised by Prof Dr Faiz Ahmad with co-supervision by Dr. Ambagaha Hewage Dona Kalpani Rasangika.

Mechanical Engineering Bootcamp – January 2026

The Mechanical Engineering Bootcamp was successfully held on 4 March 2026 at Lecture Theatre D4, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), bringing together mechanical engineering students for an engaging and insightful session focused on knowledge sharing, alumni experiences, and interactive learning.

The program featured sharing sessions by Counselor Ms Ting Jean Nee and UTP Mechanical Engineering alumna Ms Joey, who provided valuable insights on student wellbeing, personal development, and future career pathways.

The event also included alumni sharing, games and team activities, followed by a closing ceremony, lucky draw, and networking session that allowed participants to connect and exchange ideas.

Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) Challenge 2026 | UTP

On 28 February 2026, IMechE UTP Student Chapter successfully organised the Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) Challenge 2026 at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), in collaboration with Materialise Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

This one-day programme integrated a hands-on technical workshop with a design competition, aimed at strengthening students’ understanding of additive manufacturing principles and practical design optimisation. Participants were introduced to industry-relevant tools and methodologies widely applied in modern 3D printing technologies, enhancing both their technical knowledge and problem-solving skills.

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers – UTP Student Chapter (IMechE-UTP-SC), in collaboration with EPIC, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, successfully organised the DS CATIA CAD Training on 31 January 2026 and 7 February 2026 at Block 17-00-15, UTP.

This industry-driven programme was designed to equip students with hands-on exposure to CATIA, one of the most powerful and widely used CAD tools in the engineering industry today.

Across two intensive sessions, 30 participants gained practical experience in:

Real-World Manufacturing Considerations

The training aimed to bridge the gap between academic theory and industrial practice, ensuring that our mechanical engineering students are not only academically competent but also industry-ready.
