🌊 Empowering Communities Through Innovation: UTP Students Present Micro-Hydro Turbine Prototype!

On 21 July 2026, the Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Perak (JPN) , in collaboration with the Engineering, Prototyping and Innovation Centre (EPIC) , organized the Kursus Pembangunan Projek Inovasi Berimpak Tinggi Peringkat Negeri Perak 2026 at Seminar Room 6, 7 & 8, Chancellor Hall, UTP.

As part of this University Social Responsibility (USR) programme, five of our Mechanical Engineering students—Mohammad Sultan Albany, Muhammad Ziyad Zubaiyr, Muhammad Rafif Rahizal, Muhammad Asyraaf Farhan, and Ahmad—were invited to present their insights on the development of a micro-hydro turbine prototype for power generation.

Their presentation showcased the integration of engineering innovation with community needs, highlighting the potential of small-scale renewable energy solutions to benefit local communities. This initiative reflects UTP's commitment to nurturing students who are not only technically proficient but also socially responsible.

🎨 Mastering Visual Design: Adobe Illustrator Workshop at UTP!

On 18 July 2026, the IMechE - UTP Student Chapter successfully organized an Adobe Illustrator Workshop at the Learning Hub, Block 18, UTP.

This hands-on workshop was designed to equip UTP students with essential visual literacy and media skills beyond standard engineering curricula. Participants explored:

Fundamental design tools and vector graphics techniques

Layout optimization for professional presentations

Asset creation for impactful visual storytelling

The workshop encouraged students to combine creativity with technical precision—empowering them to present their innovations more effectively through compelling visual design.

We are proud to announce that Ir Dr Fudhail Abdul Munir, Senior Lecturer in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), has been invited as a Guest Speaker at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), Indonesia.

This invitation is part of the international guest lecturer agenda and the collaborative project titled:

"Enhancing National Energy Security: Transforming Low-Calorie Coal into Dimethyl Ether (DME) with Advanced Catalysts and Design of Modern Reactor Technologies."

Engineering Team Project Exhibition (ETPx) 2026
We are pleased to celebrate the successful Engineering Team Project Exhibition (ETPx) 2026, held on 16 July 2026 at Universiti Teknologi Petronas - Main Page (UTP).
The event commenced with a welcome address by Associate Professor Dr. Taib Iskandar Mohamad, Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UTP, who welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of teamwork, innovation, and industry engagement in engineering education.
The exhibition brought together 120 multidisciplinary student groups, who showcased the outcomes of their hard work, creativity, technical knowledge, and collaboration. Throughout the event, students presented their innovative engineering solutions through engaging demonstrations, project displays, and technical presentations.
We were also honoured to welcome 22 industry examiners, who provided valuable insights, constructive feedback, and real-world perspectives. Their participation strengthened the important connection between academic learning and industry practice.
ETPx 2026 highlighted the value of hands-on learning, teamwork, problem-solving, and innovation, reflecting UTP’s commitment to developing competent and future-ready engineers.
A sincere thank you to all students, industry examiners, academic staff, supporting staff, and organisers who contributed to making ETPx 2026 a meaningful and successful event.

Hands-On CNC Machining: Bridging Theory and Practice 🛠️

On 4 July 2026, the IMechE - UTP Student Chapter, in collaboration with the Engineering, Prototyping and Innovation Centre (EPIC), successfully organized the CNC Machining Process Proficiency program at EPIC (Block 16), Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP).
This industry-driven program was open to all foundation, undergraduate, and postgraduate engineering students, regardless of their background. Participants gained:
Hands-on exposure to CNC turning and milling operations
An understanding of surface-level fundamentals in machining processes
Practical insights into modern manufacturing and precision engineering
The program aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world machining applications—equipping students with practical skills that are highly valued in the manufacturing and engineering industries.

Mastering Simulation: ANSYS Mechanical & Fluent Workshop 🖥️⚙️

On 1 July 2026 and 11 July 2026, the IMechE UTP Student Chapter organized a two-day ANSYS Mechanical and Fluent Workshop at the CAE Lab, Block 17, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP).

The workshop was designed to equip participants with practical skills in engineering simulation, covering:

ANSYS Mechanical (FEA) – for structural and thermal analysis

ANSYS Fluent (CFD) – for fluid flow and heat transfer simulation

ANSYS Discovery – for rapid simulation and design exploration

Participants gained hands-on experience in solving real-world engineering problems, enhancing their ability to simulate, validate, and optimize designs—key competencies for future engineers in R&D and industry.

Exploring Structural Steel Fabrication at AYS Ventures Berhad! 🏗️

On 1 July 2026, 25 Mechanical Engineering students from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) visited AYS Ventures Berhad in Klang, Selangor—a leading structural steel maker and fabricator.

The visit provided students with firsthand exposure to:

Steel fabrication processes and quality control

Structural design and manufacturing operations

Industry practices in construction and heavy engineering

Welcome to Mechanical Engineering, Class of 2026! 🎓⚙️

On 8 July 2026, the Mechanical Engineering Department at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) held a Mechanical Engineering Bootcamp for new incoming students at Block B (Talent Hall), UTP.

A total of 30 enthusiastic participants took part in this welcoming session, designed to help them transition smoothly into university life. The bootcamp featured:

An introduction to the Mechanical Engineering Department, its programmes, and research areas

A meet-and-greet session with senior students, offering a platform for peer connection and mentorship

Team-building activities aimed at strengthening bonds and fostering a sense of community among the new cohort

This initiative reflects our commitment to nurturing a supportive and connected academic environment—ensuring that every student begins their journey with confidence, clarity, and a strong support system.

A big thank you to the senior students and staff who made this bootcamp a memorable experience for our new batch!
