Watsan Mozambique is a major local organization specializing in the provision of water and sanitation (WASH) services in the Central region of Mozambique. Established in 2018, our dedicated and experienced team comes from international development, public health, financial management, and technical backgrounds. Since 2018 Watsan has been at the forefront of WASH programs in Manica Province, suppor

ting district efforts to make a difference. We have improved access to safe for water for approximately 400,000 people in villages and schools. The Mozambique Humanitarian Response Plan for 2021 cited water and sanitation facilities as inadequate and already over-stretched and is prioritizing the establishment of water points in the country.

On Friday 20th of February 2026 , Watsan Mozambique took meaningful action to support families in the Buzi District affected by the devastating floods. We distributed essential hygiene packs and food supplies while also providing vital hygiene, sanitation, and health and safety training to empower the community during this challenging time.

Meet Alfredo from the Nhanzara community, our dedicated Area Pump Minder! At just 29, he plays a vital role in ensuring his community has access to clean water.

“Hi, my name is Alfredo. Thanks to Watsan, we can now perform minor repairs on our water point. When we need major repairs, we call Watsan Mozambique to help us. I also teach my community how to use the water point effectively for the long term.”

“Compliments of the new season! As we step into 2026, I want to share what’s happening in my life. With clean water now flowing in my community, I’ve joined a fun project at school where I’m learning to make reusable pads.

I want to say a big thank you to the generous donors who initiated the water project at my school and installed the water pump in our community. It has made a huge impact in my life!

When I’m not busy with this studying or making reusable pads at school , I love playing soccer with my friends. It feels great to make a difference while still having fun.’’

Meet Alberto, a 12-year-old boy whose life has been transformed by access to clean and safe water in his community.

Access to clean water isn’t just about hydration; it’s about opportunity. With this vital resource, Alberto can now spend less time walking long distances to fetch water and more time pursuing his dreams.

Clean water promotes better health, reducing the risk of waterborne diseases and allowing children to focus on their studies instead of illness. When boys like Alberto have access to clean water, they can thrive both academically and socially, becoming future leaders and change-makers in their communities.

Meet Merece Fazenda, a sixth grader at Chianga Primary School. She’s excited about how having clean water has changed her life and her future.

“I want to be a nurse,” Merece says, “so I can help people when they are sick, just like the nurses helped my grandmother. Before we had clean water and latrines, I had to miss school and stay home. But now I have time to study and focus on my future.”

Her days used to be about long walks to the river for water. Now, with the new solar-powered water system and toilets at school, Merece’s routine is much better.

“Fetching water took so much time before,” Merece explains. “I used to walk far, and the water wasn’t even clean. Now, the water is right here at school! It’s clean and easy to get.”

In her free time, which used to be for chores, she now has a chance to read books. She especially likes stories about science and the body, which helps her dream of being a nurse. “I can read more now,” she says. “And when I’m not reading, I love playing netball with my friends. We have more energy because we don’t get sick from dirty water anymore!”

Meet Domingas Luis , a bright third-grade student at Chianga Primary School, washing her hands at the solar-powered water system we installed back in 2019.
“I like washing my hands before eating and after playing. The water is always there. And it’s so refreshing to drink clean, cool water after playing in the sun!” – Domingas Luis
Since then, this system has been transforming lives giving students like Domingas access to clean water, better hygiene, and a healthier learning environment.

Meet Regina, she is washing her hands at a solar-powered water system installed by Watsan Mozambique and it’s partners in Mozambique at 7 de Abril primary school.

Regina says “ When I started school at 7 de Abril Primary school , I was surprised that we have access to clean water right here at school. It made me so happy because I knew it was going to make a difference in my life . I don’t have to worry about missing school because of my period.The menstrual hygiene management sessions have enlightened me to become more aware of myself and even the way I should carry myself.A lot has changed for good. One day I’m going to become a doctor, nothing is going to stop me . I am forever grateful ”

Her gratitude truly highlights the impact of accessible hygiene facilities. We are so thankful to our incredible supporters for making these essential improvements possible, ensuring health, dignity, and brighter futures for all students.
