My fellow Namibians, from a very young age I have always had an entrepreneurial mindset.
Whilst I was in primary school at Moses Van Der Byl, my dad bought a toaster in 1998. During break time when I opened my lunchbox, my friends at school admired my sandwich š„Ŗ
Immediately I saw a business opportunity and the next day, I made more sandwiches š„Ŗ and I started selling them for N$1.00
In 2003 when I was grade 8 at Concordia College, my mom bought lollipops š to sell at home, after realizing that the lollipops sales were very slow.
My mom started selling lollipops in order to supplement her income so that she can cater for our taxi fare seeing that we lived in Wanaheda and school was in Pioneerspark.
Knowing very well that other learners are likely to mock me and make fun of me, I decided that I was going to assist my mom by selling lollipops at school.
The moment I started selling lollipops, learners started teasing me, they laughed at me, they called me all sorts of names, the Afrikaans name for lollipops is Stokkie, thatās how I became known as Stokkie in high school.
I didnāt care much with them, because the goal was to help my mother, the sales of lollipops were so good that my mom was able to buy me a Dickies trouser and Grasshoppers.
I sold lollipops from grade 8 until grade 11, while other learners would go play during break time, I would dedicate my time to selling lollipops, I went from selling 1 packet of 50 per day, to at least 5 packets per day.
One lollipop was N$1.00 we bought the packet for N$25.00 so our profit on one packets was N$25.00 so that simply means per day, we were making N$125.00 x 5 days that was N$625.00
So on a monthly basis we made a minimum of N$2,500.00
Why am I telling you this story, in life when you are making progress, others will mock you, laugh at you and call you all sorts of names to attempt to discourage you from making progress.
Today they still calling me all sorts of names, such as Scammer. Little do they know that I already developed a thick skin a long time ago.
Thatās why they are unable to break me down, while everyone is Focused on me, I am focused on my goals.
