This month’s night sky offers some beautiful highlights, even as Mercury, Venus, and Mars slip too close to the Sun to observe. Jupiter is now visible after midnight and Saturn shines in the evening sky, while the Milky Way forms a stunning full 360° arc from a clear vantage point. The Large Magellanic Cloud is well placed for viewing in the southern sky, with the impressive Tarantula Nebula visible through binoculars. Our Constellation of the Month explores the enduring mystery of the Star of Bethlehem and the astronomical events that may have inspired this ancient account.

This November, Mercury, Venus, and Mars remain too close to the Sun to be seen, while Jupiter rises after midnight and enters retrograde on 11 November, and Saturn lights up our evening sky. The Leonid meteor shower peaks around 17 November, with the best viewing before dawn. On 10 November, the Moon and Jupiter will make a stunning close approach in Gemini, visible to the naked eye. Our constellation of the month is Aquarius, the Water Bearer—home to fascinating stars, planetary systems, and deep-sky treasures like the globular cluster Messier 2.

For the very first time in our country, astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) connected directly with participants via amateur radio. This was a rare and inspiring moment for Namibia. This is your chance to re-experience this event: https://youtu.be/yG2Tlmu08kw

This is a live recording and due to technical interruptions, the footage is not as awesome as we would have liked it to be.
