Breaking: Wike Says Amaechi Won’t Campaign in Rivers If He Keeps Insulting Tinubu

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Friday warned that former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi could face significant challenges campaigning in Rivers State if he continues to attack President Bola Tinubu and his supporters.

Wike made the remarks in Abuja after a meeting with chairmen of the six area councils in the FCT. He was reacting to comments attributed to Amaechi, who reportedly stated that only “thieves” and “mad people” would vote for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, with similar remarks directed at voters in Edo State.

“If he continues this line, it will be difficult for him to campaign in Rivers. We will not take that. If security agencies and INEC can fold their hands, that’s their business, but we will not allow it,” Wike said.

The minister described Amaechi’s comments as inappropriate for a politician seeking national office and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to address what he termed inflammatory rhetoric. He insisted that political campaigns should focus on issues rather than personal attacks.

Wike also renewed longstanding criticisms of Amaechi’s record as Rivers governor. He challenged the former minister to account for several projects and transactions, including a claimed $39 million cassava flour mill, a $10 million payment to a Cuban company for mosquito fumigation, a ₦68 billion monorail project, and the sale of a $308 million gas turbine. Wike alleged that Amaechi had “looted the treasury” and referenced a judicial panel of inquiry indictment that he said was upheld up to the Supreme Court.

Amaechi is the running mate to ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 general elections. No immediate response from Amaechi or the ADC was available at the time of the report.

Tinubu to Nigerians: Give Me a Second Chance to Correct Past Abnormalities

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appealed to Nigerians to grant his administration a second chance to address what he described as the cumulative mistakes and missed opportunities of previous governments.

The message was delivered on his behalf by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, during a special prayer session at the National Mosque in Abuja to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

Tinubu said his government is focused on correcting the abnormalities of the past and urged citizens not to lose hope. He maintained that peace and development are gradually returning to the country and that Nigeria is on the right path.

He added that Nigerians have finished making the necessary sacrifices for the country to be great again and called on the people to give the administration more opportunity to complete the good work it has started.

The appeal comes as the administration continues to defend its economic reforms, which it says were necessary to correct long-standing distortions in the economy. Tinubu has repeatedly argued that the challenges facing Nigeria accumulated over generations and cannot be fully resolved within a single four-year term.

With the 2027 general elections approaching, the President’s call for continuity is widely seen as an early push for a second term to consolidate the reforms and deliver on the promise of shared prosperity.

Sources cited by Arise News indicate that Wike will remain a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while mobilizing support for the president and will not defect to the APC.

Breaking: Five APC State Governors Decamp to Nigeria Democratic Congress

Popular businessman and political commentator Isaac Fayose has alleged that five governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are secretly supporting the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a video shared on his social media handle on Sunday, Fayose claimed the governors had pledged financial support for the NDC’s campaign while remaining public members of the APC. He said they would not openly campaign or make public statements in favour of the opposition party.

According to Fayose, the governors’ main condition for the secret backing is that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), must not secure victory for the APC in the FCT and Rivers State.

“We now have five APC governors supporting the NDC in this election. They are not going to come out to campaign for us. They are not going to say anything in public that will favour us, but underneath, they promised us to sponsor this election, and their request is very simple,” Fayose stated.

He added that the governors expressed concerns over alleged plans to manipulate results in those areas and offered to fund NDC polling agents in Rivers State and the FCT with ₦200,000 each per polling unit to help resist what they described as potential rigging.

Fayose did not disclose the identities of the five governors, noting that they insisted on anonymity because of their membership of the ruling party.

The claim comes amid heightened political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 polls, with the NDC, whose presidential candidate is Peter Obi, seeking to expand its influence. Fayose’s allegation has yet to be independently verified, and neither the APC nor any of its governors have issued an official response at the time of this report.
