Unlike the geographic North Pole, which sits firmly atop the planet, magnetic north is a drifter — and it’s been making moves for over a century.

Driven by the restless flow of molten iron deep within Earth’s outer core, magnetic north has wandered thousands of kilometers from northern Canada toward Siberia. In the 1990s, its pace surged from a modest 6 miles (10 km) per year to a rapid 34 miles (55 km) annually. Then, around 2015, it hit the brakes. Now, according to the latest update from the World Magnetic Model (WMM), it’s still drifting — just at a gentler 21.7 miles (35 km) per year.

So why does this matter?

Magnetic north plays a crucial role in everything from Google Maps and GPS satellites to aircraft navigation and submarine guidance systems. That’s why agencies like NOAA and the British Geological Survey update the WMM every five years — to ensure the world’s navigation tools stay accurate. Most smartphone apps auto-correct, but systems like aircraft avionics and naval instruments need manual updates.
This shift isn’t random. It’s tied to changes in Earth’s magnetic field, generated by the churning of conductive materials in the planet’s core. These flows are chaotic and hard to predict — which is why scientists are closely watching every magnetic twitch and wobble.
Could this lead to a pole reversal?

Eventually, yes — but don’t panic. Earth’s magnetic poles have flipped many times throughout geological history, roughly every 300,000 to 500,000 years. The last full reversal happened about 780,000 years ago, and partial flips are even more common. What we’re seeing now is normal geomagnetic drift, not an apocalyptic event.

Polar night has officially begun in Alaska.

Could you survive 66 days of utter darkness?

For 66 consecutive days, the residents of Utqiagvik, Alaska—the northernmost town in the United States—will not see the sun.

Known as "polar night," this natural phenomenon began on November 18 and will continue until January 23. Caused by the tilt of Earth’s axis, polar night occurs in regions within the Arctic Circle where the sun remains below the horizon for extended periods during winter.

While complete darkness doesn’t take over—the town still experiences a daily dose of civil twilight—it’s a long, sunless stretch that can challenge both mood and health, particularly due to the lack of vitamin D.

Despite the darkness, there's balance in the cosmos: Utqiagvik also enjoys 24-hour sunlight from mid-May to mid-August during the phenomenon known as the “midnight sun.” In fact, all places on Earth average roughly the same amount of annual sunlight, though how that light is distributed through the seasons can vary dramatically. While it may seem unbearable to endure weeks without sunrise, for many in Utqiagvik, it’s just another part of life above the Arctic Circle—where the sky may go dark, but community life and natural beauty continue to shine.

Have you ever wondered why your liquid soap turns cloudy even after you have tried different methods?

Sulphonic acid is one of things that can lead to cloudy or hazy production. How does this happen? Well, using too much of sulphonic acid can affect the clarity of your liquid soap.

Here's how:

Excess sulphonic acid can disrupt the balance between surfactants and water, leading to cloudy or milky appearance, especially if the pH becomes too low.

Also, sulphonic acid, in high amounts, may not dissolve fully, especially if the formulation lacks enough water or neutralizing agents like caustic soda. This undissolved portion can cause suspension or hazy particles, reducing clarity.

I'm sure you know that sulphonic acid is highly acidic. If added excessively without proper neutralization, it drops the pH, which can:

Destabilize the soap structure.

Cause phase separation.

Reduce transparency.

So, the next time you are buying your ingredients and you are given other primary surfactants in low quantities while sulphonic acid is given in high quantity, expect a cloudy a hazy outcome.

How to produce tile cleaner.

Ingredients:.
5 litres of water
25g of citric acid
125ml of sulphonic acid
250ml of HCL
Preservative and fragrance

Procedure:
Dissolve your citric acid in 1 litre of water
Mix well to combine
Add sulphonic acid and continue to mix
Add the HCL and stir continuously to combine
Add preservative and fragrance and your wall tile cleaner is ready.

GLYPHOSATE

Many people know the name but few know the story.

Glyphosate didn’t begin as a farming tool. It was first discovered in 1950 by a chemist named Henry Martin.

But it wasn’t until the 1970s that a company began using it as a w**d killer. They later sold it as Roundup, and since then, glyphosate has become one of the most widely used herbicides in the world.

At first, it was praised. They said it kills w**ds quickly and breaks down easily in the soil. Farmers saw their farms clean and believed they had found a miracle.

But over time, stories began to change.

It started with the soil, how it was losing life. Farmers noticed their soil was becoming hard, crusty, and less fertile over the years.

Scientists like Zaller et al., 2014 confirmed that glyphosate reduces soil microbial activity. That means the very tiny creatures that keep the soil rich were dying silently.

Then came the water. A 2014 study by Battaglin et al. found glyphosate in over 75% of rain and stream samples in farming regions of the U.S. Midwest. What we spray doesn’t always stay where we sprayed it.

And then came the health concerns. The World Health Organization’s cancer research arm (IARC) declared in 2015 that glyphosate is “probably carcinogenic to humans.” That one word probably gave rise to global lawsuits, with some farmers in the U.S. winning their case after developing cancers linked to long-term exposure.

Even breast milk samples tested in some areas showed traces of glyphosate (Moms Across America, 2014).

Now, many countries are restricting or banning glyphosate. But some farmers still use it daily, believing it is harmless—just because the crops still grow.

Crops growing doesn’t mean the land is living.

We can’t keep saying we care about health and soil while ignoring what we feed both of them.

Glyphosate may have been made with good intent. But the harm it brings today should wake us up.

Let’s not trade short-term w**d control for long-term catastrophe
