RED ONIONS BOOST SOLAR PANEL PERFORMANCE, STUDY FINDS

Researchers in Finland have discovered that dye extracted from red onion skins can make solar panels more durable and efficient.

The study shows that combining nanocellulose with onion dye blocks 99.9% of harmful UV rays while allowing high light transmission—outperforming conventional plastic films like PET.

Unlike other bio-based additives such as lignin, the onion-based film maintained over 80% transparency even after a year’s equivalent of sunlight exposure, making it a strong candidate for sustainable solar technology.

The team says this eco-friendly material could also be applied in fields like food packaging and smart sensors.

₦100 BILLION SOLAR PROJECT LAUNCHED BY THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT

The Federal Government has launched the National Public Sector Solarization Initiative (NPSSI), a ₦100 billion programme to power key institutions with solar energy through the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

The launch followed the signing of an MoU in Abuja between the REA, the Budget Office of the Federation, Infrastructure Corporation of Nigeria (InfraCorp), and the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI)

⁉️In other words, no hope for delivering steady light through our hydro plant. My opinion though!

STOP USING AC WATER AS DISTILLED WATER!!

AC Condensate Water is not the same as Distilled Water. It is not sterile, may contain dust, mold, bacteria, or particles.
It hasn’t been boiled and re-condensed like real distilled water, so it's not pure or safe for medical or sensitive uses. It kills batteries and can only be good for flushing toilets.

Managing your solar energy system during the rainy season is key to maintaining efficiency. Here are the things to note;

1. Monitor Battery Health: Cloudy days mean less charging. Check battery voltage regularly and avoid deep discharges. Also, Clean the terminals when necessary to avoid rust.

2. Prioritize Essential Loads; Reduce usage during cloudy days to preserve stored power.

3. Clean Your Panels Regularly: Rain may leave dust or debris on the panels. Clean them gently to maximize light absorption. Also, prevent leaf buildup that can Shade sunlight from reaching the panels.

4. Keep the Inverter, Charge Controller away from water. Make sure that the roof does not leak.
