I've gathered initial information defining a Damp Proof Course (DPC) as a crucial barrier in construction designed to prevent moisture from rising through capillary action, a phenomenon known as rising damp. Its primary purpose is to prevent moisture ingress, thereby protecting a building's structural integrity, preventing the growth of mold and mildew, contributing to healthier indoor air quality, and ultimately extending the lifespan of the structure.

*Impact on Building Health and Durability*
I've learned that DPC is vital for structural integrity by preventing the weakening of walls, rotting of timber, rusting of steel, and erosion of brickwork. From a health perspective, it significantly reduces the risk of mold and mildew growth, which are known to cause respiratory issues and allergies, thus fostering a healthier indoor environment.
