Mineral Deposits In Cross River State Southern Nigeria; Case study of Rutile deposit (TiO2) in Boki & Biase LGA respectively for industrial Applications.

It is no more news that cross riverian state is endowed with abundant natural resources. Apart from crude oil & natural gas. From geo-phyical surveys,the state can be identified with over 33 solid mineral deposits with variety of gypsum, Barite,tin ore, gemstones, quartz, marbles dolomite & limestone,lead,zinc,iron ore, hard stone (granite), manganese,titatium,iron ore, uranium,coal,mica(muscovite), kaolin,Galena(lead zinc), feldspar, diamond,graphite, pyrite (fool's gold),talc schist, tourmaline, Rutile, amethyst, bentonite,clay, Sharp sand, Tantalite, pegmatite, Wolframite, gold etc. These minerals minerals are scattered across several villages & communities in all the three senatorial districts of the state & they constitute veritable raw materials for diverse industries. However,the state and the private sectors have not taken maximum advantage of this endowment as people, otherwise the current status of the state, state of poverty will have not remained at the current high percentage of more than 65% of it's populace.

People,I will only talk on one of these minerals God has blessed this State; that is titanium bearing ore that is a pivotal for wealth creation & prosperity promotion for Cross River State.

Biase and boki LGA respectively have vast deposit of ilmenite and Rutile, titatium bearing ores that can be processed,into titanium dioxide for manufacturing, processing paints,papers,ceramics, & cosmetics, pharmaceutical and chemical industries applications. Currently the processed product (pigment) from these ores is imported into the country.

Titatium dioxide (TiO2) is mostly widely used in a range of industrial & consumer products as pigment,a filler in paper, plastic and rubber industries & as flux in glass manufacturing.

Summary
The significant benefits of producing the titanium dioxide pigment locally which our state is blessed with include among others;

1 The recovery of the investment within short period of investment.

2 provision of platforms for job creation for professionals & non-professionals.

3 Backward & forward linkages with the Mining & manufacturing sectors respectively.

4 Acquisition of the technological know-how.

5 reduction of capital overflow etc.

Thus,there is an urgent need for the establishment of a factory for the production of titatium dioxide TiO2 pigment & other associated minerals deposits factory, which at a long run will help improve the economy of the the state & will have a direct foreign exchange saving effect to the state in particular and the country at large ie substituting the current import.
