⚽ From the Pitch to the Project Site: What Messi Teaches Every MEP Engineer

Sometimes, we should spare a few minutes to talk about football, just as we spend countless hours talking about MEP Engineering.

As MEP professionals, we appreciate precision, planning, consistency, teamwork, and delivering results. Interestingly, those same qualities are what have made Lionel Messi one of the greatest footballers of all time.

Football history will never be complete without mentioning Messi. His name has become synonymous with excellence, consistency, and dedication.

Likewise, in MEP Engineering, the projects that stand the test of time are not built by chance. They are delivered by professionals who consistently improve their skills, pay attention to details, and perform at the highest level every single day.

Whether you're designing an electrical system, installing HVAC, coordinating plumbing works, or carrying out testing and commissioning, the lesson remains the same:

Greatness is built on consistency, not talent alone.

Congratulations to Argentina on reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final. Champions inspire people in every profession, and there is something every engineer can learn from the beautiful game.

⚽ Football inspires. 🏗️ MEP Engineering transforms. 💡 Excellence connects them both.

Why Wasn't NATE Properly Taught During HND?

One question has always been on my mind.

During Engineering in Society, we were taught extensively about engineering and professional bodies. Yet, NATE received little attention compared to NSE.

Could this be why many polytechnic engineering graduates don't know:
✔ What NATE is?
✔ How to become a member?
✔ That Corporate Membership of NATE can serve as one of the professional membership routes when applying for COREN registration as an Engineering Technologist, subject to COREN's requirements?

What do you think is the reason?

Share your thoughts in the comments. Let's learn from one another.

Don't forget, I'm your favourite MEP Project Engineer. With me, anyone who wants to learn can become an MEP Professional.

Flood Drain vs Fulbora: What's the Difference in MEP Engineering?

Many people assume that Flood Drains and Fulboras perform the same function, but they are designed for different applications in building services.

A Floor Drain (commonly called Flood Drain on many project sites) is installed inside buildings to collect water from wet areas such as bathrooms, toilets, kitchens, laundry rooms, plant rooms, and other internal spaces. Its purpose is to safely remove water while preventing foul odours from the drainage system through its built-in trap.

A Fulbora, on the other hand, is primarily used outside the building for collecting surface rainwater. You'll commonly find it around car parks, driveways, courtyards, walkways, open spaces, and at rainwater discharge points from rooftops. It helps prevent flooding by directing stormwater into the external drainage network.

Understanding the difference between these drainage components is essential for proper MEP design, installation, and maintenance.

I hope you've learnt something new today.

In the next episode, I'll explain how Fulboras are installed following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the common mistakes to avoid during installation.

If you're seeing this page for the first time, I'm your favourite MEP Project Engineer, and with me, anyone who is willing to learn can become an MEP Professional.

Have you ever installed or worked with Floor Drains or Fulboras? Share your experience in the comments. Let's learn together!

From HND Graduate to COREN-Registered Engineering Technologist: What Every Polytechnic Student Must Know

Why Many Polytechnic Engineering Graduates Are Missing a Critical Step in Their Career

Every day, many Polytechnic graduates and students complain about the university–polytechnic dichotomy and how it affects career growth.

While that conversation is important, there is another question that hardly gets asked.

How many Polytechnic Engineering students know about the Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE)?

More importantly:

- Did you know that NATE is a recognized member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN)?
- Did you know that graduating with an HND in Engineering does not automatically make you a Certified Engineering Technologist?
- Did you know that becoming a Professional Technologist requires evaluation and certification through NATE, leading to recognition as a COREN-registered Engineering Technologist?

These are the conversations many people overlook.

The reality is that many Engineering graduates spend years complaining about career limitations without first taking advantage of the professional pathway already available to them.

So, ask yourself:

✔️ Are you a Student Member of NATE?

✔️ Have you become a Corporate Member of NATE?

✔️ Are you working towards becoming a COREN-registered Engineering Technologist?

If your answer is No, then this series is for you.

In this episode, I'll guide you through the complete process of becoming a Certified Engineering Technologist, a Corporate Member of NATE, and ultimately a COREN-registered Technologist.

Instead of only complaining about the system, let's learn how to position ourselves for greater professional recognition and career growth.

Follow this series and share it with every Polytechnic Engineering student and graduate you know.

🚽 Smart Toilet Inspection | VitrA V-Care Installation

Every successful MEP project goes beyond installation, it requires thorough inspection, testing, and commissioning to ensure every system performs as designed.

In this video, I'm carrying out an inspection of the VitrA V-Care Smart Toilet, an advanced sanitary fixture that combines the functionality of a conventional WC with intelligent bidet technology. Features such as automatic seat operation, adjustable washing and drying, UV-C self-cleaning, odour extraction, and user comfort make it an excellent example of how modern building services are evolving.

As MEP professionals, our responsibility is not only to install equipment but also to verify its functionality, safety, performance, and compliance before handing it over to the client.

Smart sanitary technologies are becoming increasingly common in luxury residential developments, hotels, healthcare facilities, commercial buildings, and premium hospitality projects. Staying up to date with these innovations is essential for every MEP professional.

What feature of this smart toilet impressed you the most? Let me know in the comments.

With me, anyone willing to learn can become an MEP professional.
