Part One: Roots in Mushin
Mushin—an urban jungle at the restless heart of Lagos.
Here, the streets never sleep. The air is thick with the smell
of roasted corn, burning fuel, and human sweat. Traders call
out into the humid evening; their voices rise and fall like a
chorus carried by the wind. From dawn until far past
midnight, the market lives on—the heartbeat of a city that
refuses to rest.
Wooden stalls line the narrow roads, their roofs
patched with rusted zinc. The houses stand close
together, leaning against one another like tired old
friends. Electric wires hang loosely above, tangled like
vines in a concrete forest. Children run barefoot
through puddles left by the last rain, shouting,
laughing, chasing dreams between buses and barrows.
This was Mushin, the furnace where souls were forged
by noise, dust, and survival.
