Yesterday while I was going home from work I saw this building under construction and something caught my attention - the 4” pipes in the columns. I immediately took the picture.

While still on the way going home so many questions were popping up inside me: What is the purpose of having 4” pipes in the columns? Is the strength of these columns not compromised? Can the pipes do the work of the reinforcement bars?

All these and many other questions were raised inside of me without answers. When i got home i look at the picture clearly and carefully and i am compelled to say that it is professionally wrong to insert pipes in columns in this manner.
