COMPANY PROFILE
GREEN SOLAR ENERGY Ltd. is a multinational clean energy company as well as the world’s leading thin-film solar power company, committed to changing the world by clean power.
Established in 1994, the company is headquartered in Beijing and has a total of 15,000 employees. It has branches in provinces all over China as well as in the Americas, Europe and the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Africa and other regions, with core businesses covering hydropower, wind power and thin-film solar power.
At present, GSE total installed capacity of hydropower projects exceeds 6GW, and its total installed capacity of wind power projects is 131MW. In the field of thin-film solar power, the company engages in the integration of the entire thin-film value chain, covering R&D, high-end equipment manufacturing, thin-film solar module production and construction of thin-film solar power plants. It has invested in the construction of thin-film solar R&D and manufacturing bases throughout China with a total production capacity of 3GW. In addition, GSE has entered into thin-film solar power plant construction agreements across the globe totaling a capacity of about 10GW.
Through global technical integration and independent innovation, GSE has become a world leader in thin-film solar technology. The maximum research conversion efficiency of its copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) technology has reached 21%, as certified by Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE), and its gallium arsenide (GaAs) technology’s research conversion efficiency has reached 30.8% -- the world record for the highest conversion efficiency of thin-film solar technology, as certified by the U.S.’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
Thin-film solar technology enables cutting-edge features such as flexibility, light weight, superior low light performance, and diversified color and shapes. These unique qualities make it adaptable to a wide range of applications, including Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV), residential power, agricultural applications, automobile power, electronics, consumer and specialty products, as well as commercial unmanned aerial vehicles.
In February 2014, Hanergy was selected by the MIT Technology Review as one of the 50 smartest companies in the world.

Based on our focus on chain businesses, households and individual consumers, GSE strives to provide a wider range of more cost-effective and convenient solar power application products that can further reduce carbon footprints. In this way, the use of solar power can be maximized, the electric bill and the damage of mankind on the ecosystem are minimized, and sustainable development can be achieved.
BAPV is your best choice if you wish to ensure that your company maximizes its profit and social impacts, as the system can provide to you long-term financial benefits from solar power generation while keeping the existing buildings intact. GSE boasts years of R&D and production of light-weight and environment-friendly thin-film photovoltaic modules with sound low-light performance, and now we have developed and built up a number of BAPV projects. The existing large factories and structures and even the residential buildings can become BAPV buildings with simple retrofitting. The easy installation of the photovoltaic modules will bring to you not only the financial benefits from solar power generation, but also increase the social values by making your buildings go green
Introduction to BAPV
As one of the common building-based PV applications, BAPV attaches PV modules to buildings by simple retrofit structures and maintains the intact functions of the buildings despite the attachment. Such a power generation system is easy to install and promote due to the benefits such as space and energy saving and pro-peak regulation.
Introduction to the Off-grid PV Power System
The Off-grid PV Power System can be extensively applied in remote and mountainous areas, areas not covered by the power grid, islands, telecom base stations and street lighting. The system functions in the way that PV cells first generate electricity before the batteries charge or discharge based on the management of the control. And then the power is fed to the DC load indirectly, or to the AC load through the inverter.
Grid-connected PV Power System
The global leading “small-sized distributed PV power system” owned by GSE features the international advanced GIGS technology, which can make the most of solar power and reduce man-made damages on the environment thanks to its highest module conversion efficiency in the thin-film PV sector.
GSE small-sized distributed PV power system can be extensively applied on the rooftops of residential and commercial buildings. The system has been installed in thousands of European households through GSE standard and systematic sales and services. In the meantime, our professional service team also provides a one-stop total solution to our customers, including pre-sale support, applicability screening, project management, after-sale service, marketing planning, and collection of users’ information, household survey and onsite installation.
Working principles of the small distributed grid-connected power system:
High-performance PV modules are mounted and installed on the roofs. The modules are then series and parallel connected as a solar cell array to generate direct current by absorbing the sunlight. DC is then converted by PV inverters to AC to be used by home appliances. The redundant power will be first stored in the storage cell, with the remaining power connected to the grid and families get paid for the sales of electricity.

The increasing demands for a comfortable environment have caused larger energy consumption from heating and air conditioning of the buildings and triggered a public call for carbon reduction. Through integrating solar power generation products to flat and slanted roof-tops, curtain walls and ceilings, BIPV can bring to you green office and residential buildings, help to reduce the carbon footprints, and produce benefits from solar power generation. In this way, your buildings will have greater social values and represent brand-new green ideas.
Introduction to BIPV
BIPV refers to photovoltaic modules or materials integrated with buildings as an indispensable part of the building to both generate electricity and keep off the wind and rain and insulate heat. Buildings will be deprived of such functions if the modules are removed. BIPV distinguishes itself from BAPV or simple attaching photovoltaic modules or systems to buildings in that the former functions as an integral part of the buildings like building materials.
BIPV features a series of advantages such as stable electricity supply, space saving, building material saving, pro peak regulation, environment friendly and a small carbon footprint.
Application areas of BIPV
BIPV is applied in skylight roof-tops, transparent thin-film glass, PV-tiles rooftops, walls, and PV curtain walls.
