Dreaming of a Sustainable African Cashew Industry?
We're excited to share the highlights of the 18th Annual African Cashew Alliance Conference and Expo, which wrapped up last week in Cotonou, Benin. This year's event theme, "Building Capacities for a Sustainable African Cashew Industry", brought together over 350 participants from more than 30 countries, including industry leaders, innovators, and change-makers.
The conference aimed to enhance local cashew nut processing, promote sustainable practices, and foster strategic partnerships among participants. Key discussions focused on building resilient value chains, capacity building, and sustainable financing. We were thrilled to have dynamic speakers, panelists of which our MD/CEO Mr Daniel Gemana was a part of, and workshops that shed light on the latest trends and challenges in the industry.
One of the exciting moments was the business-to-business meetings facilitated by the ACA, which led to meaningful connections and potential collaborations among participants. Our international cashew expo showcased innovative products and solutions from around the world.
We also took a field trip to the Glo-DjibΓ© Industrial Zone, where we witnessed Benin's commitment to full local processing of cashews.
A special thank you to the European Union for their continuous support to the cashew value chain in Africa through programs like Move-ComCashew. Their efforts have been instrumental in driving progress and sustainability in the industry.
As we reflect on the progress made, we recognize that there's still work to be done. The low local processing capacity and the need for more robust approaches to cashew transformation are just a few of the challenges we face. However, with collective efforts, we can create a more sustainable and balanced industry that benefits all.
So, what's next?
