Most specialists only encounter hardware like this at a client site.

We have it in the office.

Our on-premises lab includes an IBM LinuxONE mainframe, along with the kind of infrastructure stack that most teams only work with when the stakes are already high. We built it because we think hands-on access to the real thing matters. Not as a showpiece. As a working environment.

It is where we test, learn, and stay sharp between engagements.

If this is the kind of place that sounds interesting to work in, we are hiring.

We'll be at GS|NL 2026 and we can't wait to see you there!

The GS|NL National Conference is back on 18 June at Van der Valk Hotel Almere, and this year's theme could not be more relevant to what we do every day: The Path to a Hybrid and Independent Cloud.

Hybrid infrastructure, cloud sovereignty, platform independence. These are the conversations we have with our clients constantly. Getting to spend a whole day talking about them with the wider Dutch enterprise IT community is something we genuinely look forward to every year.

If you are going to be there, come and find us. We would love to catch up.

We are a small team of specialists. We build the digital backbone of the Netherlands.

We are currently hiring for five positions across platform engineering, DevOps, cloud, database, and mainframe. Most roles are hybrid, Netherlands.

People stay with ICU for a long time. Not because they have to. Because the work stays interesting and the team is worth staying for.

AI-enabled mainframe workloads are growing immensely. That is not an incremental shift. It is a structural one.

Current mainframe technology delivers AI inference at sub-millisecond latency at scale. The organisations depending on this infrastructure are not downsizing. They are the banks, the insurers, the enterprises where downtime is measured in more than money.

The mainframe is not holding on. It is accelerating. The question is whether the teams running it can keep pace with what it is becoming.

ICU has been doing this work for 25 years. We are also looking for people who want to be part of it.

What is your organisation's current position on mainframe modernisation?

80% of large organisations needed a platform engineering team by 2026. Most are starting with the tooling.

The tool is the last question. Not the first.

The first question is: what are you actually orchestrating? What does failure look like, and how quickly does it need to recover? What are the workload relationships that no Helm chart accounts for?

Architecture defines the tooling. Not the other way around. This is where most implementations go wrong, and where ICU starts every engagement.

What would your orchestration environment look like if architecture had been the first decision?

Most DB2 Professionals have been doing this for decades. The next generation is not coming at the same rate.

The organisations that depend on this knowledge are already feeling it. Not as a sudden crisis but as a slow narrowing of options.

We are building a team around people who carry this depth. If that is you, we would like to talk.
The role is based in the Netherlands, Almere, with hybrid working.
You'll have access to our on-site lab, including an IBM LinuxONE mainframe. Because we think hands-on access to the real thing matters.

Every complex environment has a history. And the person who knows that history best is usually the one who never had the authority to fix it.

The problem is rarely the tools. It is the absence of architectural thinking at the point when the decisions were made.

We work with people who take this seriously. If the environment you are in is no longer giving you enough room, let's talk.

ICU is hiring!

Most OpenShift environments weren't designed. They accumulated.

A cluster here. A namespace strategy that made sense six months ago. A pipeline nobody owns. This isn't a technology failure. It's what happens when infrastructure scales faster than the thinking behind it.

The question isn't whether your orchestration has gaps. It's whether you know where they are.

We do this work because it genuinely interests us. If you're the kind of person who thinks the same way, we're hiring.

The hardest environments to modernise were not built badly.
They were built incrementally, without anyone owning the architecture as a whole.

We work with IT leaders who are ready to have that conversation.
If you value people who challenge the problem before they propose the solution, we are looking for specialists.

There's a certain kind of person who doesn't find complexity frustrating.
They find it interesting.

A tangled environment, a system nobody fully understands, a problem that's been sitting in the backlog for two years because it's too hard.
That's the one they want to look at.

We've built ICU around these people.
Not because difficult work is the goal, but because it's usually where the real work is.
And solving it properly, with a plan that actually holds, is what we're here to do.

The projects that challenge us most are often the ones we're most proud of.
If your infrastructure is complicated, you're probably our kind of client.
