ICU IT-services

ICU IT-services ICU IT Services is gespecialiseerd in ICT infrastructuren.

We have been quiet about this for a moment, so it is about time we said something.

ICU has a new website. Same team, same work, same 25 years of enterprise infrastructure experience in the Netherlands. Just a home that does it justice.

If you want to know who we are, what we do, and the environments we work in before GS|NL on 18 June, this is a good place to start.

We get asked about our working model more often than you might expect.

At ICU we work hybrid, and deliberately so. Not because it is expected, but because it works better for the kind of team we are.

Most of the week, people work from wherever they do their best thinking. Senior specialists tend to know where that is. We trust them to manage their own time and environment.z

Then there are the in-office days. These are about the things that do not happen on a call. A whiteboard session that actually solves something. A problem someone was quietly carrying that gets picked up by the person sitting next to them. A presentation from a team member or a guest that changes how you think about something.

Those days matter. So do the ones in between.

It is a small thing, but it is one of the reasons people stay at ICU longer than they planned to.

Dutch enterprises are increasingly asking a question they never used to ask out loud.

Who actually controls our infrastructure?

Not in a theoretical sense. In a practical one. When data moves between on-premises systems, private cloud, and public platforms, the answer gets complicated quickly. And in regulated industries, complicated is not an acceptable answer.

Over the past year we have seen more organisations treating hybrid infrastructure not as a step toward something else, but as the architecture they are committing to. The question has shifted from:

How do we get to the cloud?
to
How do we make sure the cloud works on our terms?

This is the conversation that matters right now.
What does infrastructure independence actually look like in your organisation?

Most specialists only encounter hardware like this at a client site.

We have it in the office.

Our on-premises lab includes an IBM LinuxONE mainframe, along with the kind of infrastructure stack that most teams only work with when the stakes are already high. We built it because we think hands-on access to the real thing matters. Not as a showpiece. As a working environment.

It is where we test, learn, and stay sharp between engagements.

If this is the kind of place that sounds interesting to work in, we are hiring.

We'll be at GS|NL 2026 and we can't wait to see you there!

The GS|NL National Conference is back on 18 June at Van der Valk Hotel Almere, and this year's theme could not be more relevant to what we do every day: The Path to a Hybrid and Independent Cloud.

Hybrid infrastructure, cloud sovereignty, platform independence. These are the conversations we have with our clients constantly. Getting to spend a whole day talking about them with the wider Dutch enterprise IT community is something we genuinely look forward to every year.

If you are going to be there, come and find us. We would love to catch up.

AI-enabled mainframe workloads are growing immensely. That is not an incremental shift. It is a structural one.

Current mainframe technology delivers AI inference at sub-millisecond latency at scale. The organisations depending on this infrastructure are not downsizing. They are the banks, the insurers, the enterprises where downtime is measured in more than money.

The mainframe is not holding on. It is accelerating. The question is whether the teams running it can keep pace with what it is becoming.

ICU has been doing this work for 25 years. We are also looking for people who want to be part of it.

What is your organisation's current position on mainframe modernisation?

80% of large organisations needed a platform engineering team by 2026. Most are starting with the tooling.

The tool is the last question. Not the first.

The first question is: what are you actually orchestrating? What does failure look like, and how quickly does it need to recover? What are the workload relationships that no Helm chart accounts for?

Architecture defines the tooling. Not the other way around. This is where most implementations go wrong, and where ICU starts every engagement.

What would your orchestration environment look like if architecture had been the first decision?

Most DB2 Professionals have been doing this for decades. The next generation is not coming at the same rate.

The organisations that depend on this knowledge are already feeling it. Not as a sudden crisis but as a slow narrowing of options.

We are building a team around people who carry this depth. If that is you, we would like to talk.
The role is based in the Netherlands, Almere, with hybrid working.
You'll have access to our on-site lab, including an IBM LinuxONE mainframe. Because we think hands-on access to the real thing matters.

Every complex environment has a history. And the person who knows that history best is usually the one who never had the authority to fix it.

The problem is rarely the tools. It is the absence of architectural thinking at the point when the decisions were made.

We work with people who take this seriously. If the environment you are in is no longer giving you enough room, let's talk.

ICU is hiring!
