Tomorrow, Introdans' new show Swan Lake will premiere. We worked with them on part of their stage design, where inflatable pieces are part of the story. They are compact to move between venues, but the shapes that arise when inflated set the atmosphere for the story.

The show will travel through theaters in The Netherlands this winter. This image was taken during a first test with the inflatables on-stage.

Our installation Arabidopsis Symphony brings complex plant data to life. It combines augmented reality with ever-changing musical compositions, showing there is more to a plant than first glance reveals. Walk through the digital garden of plants and experience the inner life of the plant Arabidopsis Thaliana.

Arabidopsis Symphony was the result of a collaboration with researcher Sander van der Krol. This year, the installation went to Tokyo (Japan) and to Museum Arnhem (NL). It will travel to new places next year.

In mid-December, Arnhem-based dance ensemble Introdans will introduce their contemporary rendition of the classic piece Swan Lake. We're proud to announce our collaboration with them on part of the stage design. We have developed inflatable pieces that are compact to move between venues, but the shapes that arise when inflated set the atmosphere for the story.

These images were taken during a first test with the stage design on-stage.

To realize our installation Organic Iterations, we collaborated with R-Vent to work with a material not often used in art: ventilation ducts. The technique exactly matched our aesthetic and acoustic wishes. The material is lightweight and translates the look and feel of the organ pipe into a contemporary version. We're excited about the collaboration and thankful for the support of R-Vent.

Slide 1-3: A look at the material in the final result.
4: Samples of ventilation duct parts on our visit to R-Vent.
5: Getting a tour through R-Vents warehouse.
6: The material coincidentally reflects light and colors beautifully.
7. More samples of the material.
8: One of the machines is hard at work at the factory.
9: Ventilation duct parts ready for the next step of production.
10: The material applied in the installation.

During Innovationlabs #1, five affiliated researchers explored five recurring themes in depth. Their stories are introduced through an interactive 'audiowall', where visitors can listen to each researcher explain their theme of subject. Folded leaflets in the form of leporellos can also be taken here, in which the sixteen different projects are linked to the five themes.

The researchers offer a different perspective on the sixteen projects and the lessons they learned throughout their processes. They follow the activities within Innovationlabs and actively contribute to knowledge sharing, between these projects and the cultural and creative sector. In addition to sharing existing knowledge about innovation processes and models, the researchers generate new knowledge and insights that can contribute to solving complex issues within and beyond the cultural and creative sector.

For Innovationlabs #1 presents: The Living Archive, we developed custom-made file cabinets on which the sixteen partaking projects present their results and processes. They all have unique stories and processes, and the exhibition serves as a platform to share all the gathered knowledge throughout the projects. The archive visualizes this never-ending character of innovation and experiment.

Additionally, the columns and rows of boxes form a grid on which the typography and visual identity are applied. Informational texts and infographics are displayed on boards that can be folded into the rows of cabinets. In terms of materials and methods, our goal was to realize the exhibition as sustainably as possible. Not only do the file cabinets and boxes translate the story behind Innovationlabs, the choice of materials also allows for easy assembly, storage and future reuse of the exhibition.

At the end of September, our new work Organic Iterations opened at the Eusebius Church in Arnhem. It was celebrated with a performance brought by three singers and the work itself, after which visitors could try the interactive installation themselves. “The sound is overwhelming, I was immediately amazed by that. My gaze went to the cross vaults, the architecture, the blending of sound and space”, stated one of the visitors.

In Organic Iterations #1, a church organ comes to life through three large pillars. When the organ is sung to, it responds by singing along. The organ engages in a playful collaboration with the visitor, creating unique compositions each time. A mixture of different voices is created: that of the organ, the visitors, the algorithm and the history of the church.

Over the course of two years, we are developing three different works of art with and for the Eusebius Church. This church's history and characteristics form the installation's conceptual starting point. These are divided into three themes: sharing, dissent and connection. This first artwork forms the starting point of Organic Iterations, after which two more works will follow.

Our new work Organic Iterations #1 was developed from the desire to make the culture and history of the church understandable and accessible. By collaborating with a team of professionals from various fields, we bring together different stories in this work. We aim to let viewers look at a familiar phenomenon through a new perspective. Where does the sound come from, and how does the organ behave in response to my voice? As the work draws a connection between the sound and the space on the one hand, but within that, also between the past and the present, we strive to make history and technology tangible and experienceable.

Innovationlabs #1 presents: The Living Archive tells the story of 16 innovative and experimental projects and their results and processes. The diverse projects come together through a field of custom-made file cabinets, highlighting the huge amount of lessons learned throughout the projects and the endless character of innovation. We're proud to have been involved as designers in this exhibition.

Creative Industries Fund NL and CLICKNL issued the Open Call for Innovationlabs twice, in 2021 and 2022. This call was open to innovative and experimental projects to tackle current cultural and creative challenges and increase the sector’s resilience. In the exhibition, which takes the form of a living archive, the 16 projects in the first edition present the results and processes of their projects. The affiliated researchers explore five overarching themes.
