Het BAL 2026 (Besluit activiteiten leefomgeving) maakt de regels rondom afvalopslag steeds concreter. Maar voor veel bedrijven draait het inmiddels om meer dan alleen een vergunning.

De focus verschuift naar aantoonbaar veilig en verantwoord opslaan. Zeker bij materialen die kunnen uitlogen of regenwater kunnen vervuilen, zoals:
• C-hout
• dakafval
• shredderresidu
• PFAS-houdende materialen
• vervuilde grond en slib

Open opslag is in veel situaties niet langer voldoende. Regenwater dat in contact komt met afvalstromen kan namelijk worden gezien als verontreinigd afvalwater.

Wat daardoor steeds belangrijker wordt:
• voorkomen van regeninslag en uitloging
• gecontroleerde afvoer van water
• invulling geven aan de zorgplicht onder het BAL
• opslagoplossingen die technisch onderbouwd zijn
• voorbereid zijn op strengere handhaving en toekomstige eisen

Choosing a shelter is about more than dimensions and price. Wind load, snow load, installation location and local regulations all influence whether a standard setup is sufficient.

All standard Kroftman shelters are calculated according to EN 13782, the European standard for temporary structures. But in some situations, an additional structural calculation may still be required. For example:
• long-term installations
• higher local wind or snow loads
• permit applications with specific municipal requirements

That is why buildbooks with structural calculations are available free of charge for all standard products, giving direct insight into the technical specifications and load calculations.

More companies are reviewing structural requirements before installation to avoid delays, permit issues or unnecessary modifications later in the project.

Storing waste according to regulations, without building a permanent structure.

For Gebr. Beijer BV in Soest, we replaced an existing setup with a more durable solution for storing treated wood, roofing waste and roofing gravel.

The solution:
• 1x 8 × 6 m saddle roof for treated wood
• 1x 10 × 6 m saddle roof, divided into two storage sections
• Mounted directly onto the existing concrete walls

What this delivers:
• Covered storage in line with environmental regulations
• Reduced risk of rain exposure and leaching
• Structures calculated for wind and snow loads
• Buildbook including structural calculations

The World Cup is just around the corner. Time to look back at Euro 2024, because a Kroftman shelter stood right in the middle of a fan zone in Hamburg, serving as a covered bar for 50,000 fans a day.

The organiser needed something that could be installed quickly, but also safe enough for a fan zone of that scale. Three open-side containers with a CT812 arched roof: 8 × 12 metres, 5.5 metres high, EN 13782 certified. For temporary structures open to the public, certification is a hard requirement for permits and insurance.

For the fans, it meant a covered spot to have a drink and watch the tournament in comfort, whatever the weather. The open sides kept things spacious and easy to move through.

Not our most standard application. But it was great to see.
