For offshore platforms, nesting birds are a direct operational hazard—obscuring landing markings, damaging equipment, and forcing helicopters to divert or delay landings.

At Maersk Oil's FSP platform in the North Sea, that risk was real: nesting gulls were putting helicopter landings at risk and driving up structural damage to the helideck, with annual cleaning and maintenance costs reaching ÂŁ20,000. After switching to the AVIX Handheld, gull numbers dropped from 300 to under 80.

Automotive plants are practically built to attract birds: massive roof spans, exposed steel trusses, and open loading bays make ideal shelter and nesting ground.

The cost is real: corroded paint on staged vehicles, roofs losing up to 50% of their lifespan, and health risks for maintenance crews working the ductwork.

The good news? It's entirely preventable.

In our latest blog, we break down why these facilities are high-risk, what the damage actually costs, and how automated bird deterrence is helping plants cut bird-related losses by up to 80%.

Bang & Olufsen had a seagull problem on a 14,000 m² rooftop.

One AVIX Autonomic system changed that.

After installation, seagull presence was reduced by 100%, while cleaning and maintenance costs dropped significantly.

A single flock can measurably cut into your harvest returns.

Aug–Oct marks peak blackbird flocking season before migration, per USDA APHIS—right as crops are ready for pickup and the the impact shows up across farms of every size.

See what real AVIX customers experienced during harvest season and what active, 24/7 protection can mean for your yield.

Billions of birds migrate across the U.S. every fall.

For facilities, that means more bird activity and more reason to prepare.

From August through November, species such as hummingbirds, warblers, and waterfowl move across the country, often at night. Migration also brings added risks around rooftops, water sources, and other sensitive areas.

AVIX Autonomic helps discourage birds from settling without harming them.

Choose a sustainable way to protect your facility this migration season.

Gull nesting season may be winding down, but prevention for next season starts now.

Across the US and UK, many gull species, along with their active nests, eggs and chicks, are legally protected.

That means bird control should never begin by disturbing an active nest. The better approach is to make rooftops less attractive before breeding begins.

AVIX Autonomic uses automated, non-lethal laser technology to discourage gulls from settling on warehouses, factories and commercial buildings, helping protect both the birds and the facility.

Prepare your rooftop before the next nesting season.

Airport wildlife programs are good at their job. Too good.

For Australia’s largest freight and postal network, that meant a new problem: birds pushed off the runways were moving straight into the freight terminals next door — roosting in the roof cavities and steel trusses directly above the sorting floor.

The fallout was serious. Droppings contaminating packaging. Hygiene risks on sorting equipment. Safety hazards for staff working under active roosts. Compliance exposure in customs and quarantine zones that can’t afford a single slip-up.

So the operator went nationwide with 38 AVIX Autonomic laser systems — a green laser that birds perceive as a physical threat and instinctively avoid. No noise. No chemicals. No disruption to the floor below. Each unit calibrated to stay contained entirely indoors.

The results came fast:
→ Brisbane: 80% drop in bird activity
→ Sydney: the same strong downward trend
→ Perth: results the very day the system went live

“We are solving a problem that is being displaced from next door into facilities that cannot afford the consequences,” says Michelle Kerr, Director of Bird Beam Bird Control Technologies, who led the rollout.

A couple of days ago, we shared how a single bird contributed to nearly 2,000 product recalls.

The obvious follow-up question: What do you actually do when a bird gets into your warehouse?

Acting fast matters—but acting correctly matters more. Depending on where the bird is and whether it's nesting, your legal options change fast.

Our latest step-by-step guide breaks down exactly how to handle it safely, legally, and permanently.

Have you ever wondered how much one bird can cost a business?

In late 2025, nearly 2,000 FDA-regulated products were recalled after inspectors found bird droppings and rodent waste at a Minneapolis distribution facility.

The impact went far beyond cleaning up a mess. The recalls affected medical devices, drugs, food, pet food, and cosmetics—bringing operational disruption, compliance issues, financial losses, and reputational damage.

The good news? These incidents are often preventable. Investing in proactive bird deterrence can help facilities protect their products, operations, and reputation before contamination becomes tomorrow's headline.

Every season, it's the exact same story.

The birds return. Production lines halt for emergency deep cleans. Dock doors stay shut longer than they should. Teams waste precious labor hours setting up temporary fixes that don't stick. Then, next season, you do it all over again.

It's time to break the cycle.

We analyzed what separates food production and distribution facilities that keep operations running smoothly from those stuck in the same loop of reactive maintenance and audit anxiety.

Check out our new blog — inside, we share a 4-step framework for continuous, automated bird protection, alongside real operational data from facilities already using it.
