On May 21st, the Ambassador of India to the Netherlands India in Netherlands (Embassy of India, The Hague), Mr. Rajesh N. Prasad, had visited TU Delft.

He took the opportunity to mingle with some Indian students here over lunch. We, as a student organization working to connect Indian and Dutch aerospace industry, had an opportunity to pitch in our vision and mission. It was a wonderful experience talking with him about what we do here and how Indian students are shaping their careers to challenge the future.

On this day, India lost one of its greats: Kalpana Chawla.
The first Indian-American astronaut, Kalpana Chawla was part of the 1997 space shuttle Columbia's mission as a mission specialist and the primary robotic arm operator. In 2003, she was part of the tragedy struck Columbia mission which killed her and 6 other crew members minutes after the shuttle entered the earth's atmosphere.

Not only was she the first Indian American Astronaut, but she inspired a whole new generation of Indian students to take on space and beyond.

"When you look at the stars and the galaxy, you feel that you are not just from any particular piece of land, but from the solar system."
- Kalpana Chawla (1962 - 2003)
