Next year it is time for the next Mijnbouw Mannen Kalender! This calendar is full of pictures of the handsome miners from Delft. The applications to be in the calendar are open now. The picture below is the application sent in by our Commisioner of Education. Do you think he is worth it?!

“I was never the best Mijnbouwer. But luckily it’s a relationship driven world. I’m in my bachelor degree. And it’s important to be knowledgeable, but my job is primarily to get students to like the MV more than the other associations. All of the other associations sell stupid stories. The differences between us are very large. So it comes down to one thing: ‘With whom do they like to drink more?’ And I want that to be me. But it's a lot of work. Relationships don’t just materialize. I’m always on my phone and with my glass. I answer challenges immediately and afterwards I send ‘thank you’ notes for everything. And if I ever read an article that reminds me of a drink we had, I’m sending a stiefel along.”

"Activities like this connect everyone, regardless of their age, gender, race, background. People just coming together to share the joy as human beings, and that's a beautiful thing. So I'm one of the biggest supporters of this event. I've spent the last 3 days studying mechanics. “I was first exposed to a Bagger 288 at the age of seven when a traveling company came to my church in Aduard. By the time I was eleven I was practicing six days a week in digging, but only with a spade by then... It became my all-consuming monastic devotion. I eventually made it to the faculty of Geosciences&Engineering at the TU Delft. I’ve always seen digging as my way of serving God. I think it’s what God has called me to do. You can call it frivolous, or superficial. But you can stretch that argument to infinity. Why do we have civil engineering? Why do we have architecture? I think it’s all not a form of worship. It’s because digging is essential! In a secular age the mine becomes the cathedral. There can be such a lack of empathy and collaboration in this world. But in the mine we see beauty and order and harmony modeled for us—twenty four hours a day. And it took a lot of sacrifice to make that possible."
