Smart windows may look simple. The technology behind them is anything but.

A dimmable window must do more than change its appearance on command. Power supplies, controllers, window drivers, embedded software and building automation all need to respond with precision, time after time.

That was the challenge behind an advanced dimmable window platform developed in collaboration with a global technology company.

Neways supported the development of the driver electronics and embedded software, as well as integration with building management systems through the KNX protocol. The platform was also prepared for series production and accelerated lifetime testing in climate chambers.

The result is a production ready system that enables consistent control of multiple smart windows, intuitive operation and reliable integration within modern buildings.

Hans Büthker and Michiel van der Maat recently met with Michelle Jagtenberg, Member of the Dutch House of Representatives for D66 with a portfolio covering defense equipment and personnel.

They discussed the changing European security landscape and the importance of a strong Dutch technological and industrial base. A key topic was how advanced electronics and scalable production capabilities can support the development of reliable, mission-critical defense systems.

Drawing on Michelle’s experience in the defense sector and her previous role as an engineer at NLR, the conversation also explored how closer long-term cooperation between government, knowledge institutes and industry can accelerate innovation and strengthen Europe’s defense capabilities.
