Paper airplanes, who hasn’t made them? ✈️ In 2021, the team brought a pathway full of luminous interactive mushrooms to GLOW, winning the Crowe Talent Award. In 2022 the LED strips of the mushrooms have been reused along sustainable recycled greencast plexiglass. In 2023, the mass production strategy has been advanced, scaling up the artwork for guiding a scenic detour in the GLOW route.

More than 70 luminous "paper airplanes" hovered in the air and over the Dommel River near the Van Abbemuseum and guided visitors. These ‘Paper Trails’ move naturally alongside you with changing colors and movement through air and water, the airplanes create a magical effect along the route.

"We faced some challenges, but we were amazed by how well the light art installation came together. It was a puzzle that we had solved in our minds, but seeing it in reality was a different experience. Standing in the pouring rain, we felt a moment of pride as we watched our collective work come to life," says Ivy van Dongen, team manager and designer within the team.

With the GLOWBLE, a massive luminous sphere measuring 3.5 meters in diameter, we seek to engage the audience and make them a part of the artwork and the route itself. The colors and patterns dance on the sphere because the artwork reacts to sounds in the environment, such as the clapping, laughing, and screaming of visitors 💡👏

This is made possible through acoustic cameras by Eindhoven-based company Sorama that detect sound and translate it into something visible, in this case, the colors of the over 1200 LED spots implemented in the sphere. Interestingly, these spots were previously used to illuminate the chimney of the Ketelhuis on the TU/e campus!

"Digitalization can contribute to more remote interaction. We want to use technology in a different way, namely to bring people together," says Teun van Roosmalen, a designer within the team. "It's inspiring to see what happens when visitors stop at the artwork and work together to make GLOWBLE shine."

Unite with Light. That is what happened during the assembly night of project Paper Trails last week ✨

Team IGNITE members have joined forces for the ultimate assembly of the 80 planes destined to light up GLOW Eindhoven 2023 from November 11-18. What a milestone! This shows the true power of collaboration, where we soar beyond individual limits! This beautifully illustrates the broader sense of Team IGNITE's slogan, as we do not only aim to unite users with light, but also unite students from multidisciplinary backgrounds by collaborating on light projects 👫💡

We've been hard at work behind the scenes at Paper Trails of project team Wayfinding, running rope strength tests and fine-tuning our plan to make 'GLOW' even more spectacular! ✨

All the separate parts for our light installation have arrived, and tonight's the night – it's assembly time! 🛠️ We get ready for a whirlwind night of teamwork as we bring all our planes together. Stay tuned for the grand reveal!

Hey everyone! We invite you to take another peek into our road to 2023.

For project GLOWBLE, the past two weeks have been all about fitting the LED grid onto our geodesic dome. Fabric was measured ✂️, LED strips prepped 💡, and sound design has been finetuned in 🎵. Also, they've improved the planning process: "We are now completely prepared for GLOW!" 📅

Next up is the testing of cameras with a big group. This data will amp up the animations. We'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas on the progress!
