WHAT HAPPENS AT THE YARD | AUGUST 2026

What a summer it has been! Plenty of sunshine, beautiful days on the water and, best of all, great messages and photos from happy owners enjoying their yachts.

At the yard, summer always brings a slightly quieter rhythm as many of our team take a well deserved break. Now everyone is returning, nicely tanned and full of energy, and we are getting ready for a busy autumn season. With the Cannes Yachting Festival, Monaco Yacht Show and METSTRADE also coming up, there is plenty happening both at the yard and beyond.

So, time to see what has been happening over the summer!

Let’s start with Patriot. Her refit is carried out by Holland Jachtbouw as part of the VMG Group, with different specialists within the group working together on the project. Super Duplex Hulls (SDH) is currently installing the rub rails, while several stainless steel handrails and railings are already back in place. The new tender crane has been installed on deck, with Jongkind Service Medemblik working on the electrical connections. In the engine room, all pumps are in place and the frequency converter has been lifted on board. SDH has also assembled the mast and fitted the mounting pins for the teak bench, while at VMG Yachtbuilders the stabiliser fin blades are being repaired.

The Sport Fish series continues to take shape as well. On hull number 3, the Flybridge version, primer has been applied to the aft bulkhead and the entrance sliding door is being fitted. Inside, more and more of the interior is coming together. In our joinery hall, window frames, cabinetry and other interior elements are being built and finished, while a temporary dashboard is also under construction.

Meanwhile, hull number 2, the first Express model in the Sport Fish series, is almost ready to leave us. Over the past months, every department at VMG has contributed to her construction, from high end carpentry and interior work to technical installation and final finishing. She is now in the water and being prepared for transport to the United States.

One yacht that already left us earlier this summer is Jeff. After months of careful restoration, this remarkable 39ft Dunkirk Little Ship from 1923 left VMG Yachtbuilders in June. She is now in Dinant, Belgium, where she will begin her new life as a luxury canal cruiser.

With the team back and the autumn season ahead of us, there is plenty happening at the yard. We look forward to sharing the next developments with you!

THE FIRST EXPRESS HITS THE WATER 🛥️

Some boats make an impression the moment they touch the water. Hull number 2, the first Express model in this Sport Fish series, is certainly one of them.

She shares the same hull as the Flybridge model, but the different deck design gives her a completely different character. Her silhouette immediately catches the eye.

Over the past months, we have shared several stages of her construction. From the high-end carpentry and beautifully crafted interior to the technical installation and final finishing, every department has contributed to bringing this boat to life. Now, with the engines and onboard systems fully commissioned, she has successfully completed her first sea trial.

The project now moves into the final phase of construction. The remaining work will now be completed before she is prepared for transport to the United States.

Seeing the first Express on the water is another rewarding moment for everyone involved in this project. Every boat we build helps us further refine this growing series of high-performance sport fishing boats.

BUILDING BRANDS TOGETHER

Most people think a yacht starts with a design. We think it starts with questions.

❓ Can we build this efficiently?
❓ Should this feature become standard or remain optional?
❓ Will this still be the right solution years from now?

These conversations take place long before the first hull is built. They rarely appear in a brochure, yet they often determine how successful a yacht, and sometimes even a yacht brand, will become.

That is where the role of a yacht builder extends beyond construction.

At VMG Yachtbuilders, we work with both established brands and entrepreneurs developing their first model. Every project is different, but the process is remarkably similar. A vision gradually becomes a product through hundreds of practical decisions. Some are technical, others commercial. Together, they shape not only the yacht itself, but also the future of the brand behind it.

Our role is to contribute the experience gained from years of building custom yachts, refits and series production. Sometimes that means refining a construction method. Sometimes it means challenging a specification or discussing the long term consequences of a seemingly small decision. Often, it simply means asking the right questions at the right moment.

For a brand owner, this creates the freedom to focus on developing the brand, connecting with clients and growing the business, while knowing that every decision behind the scenes is carefully considered.

Chaser Yachts is one example of how this works in practice. The project we worked on with them started with a clear vision for a distinctive yacht. From there, countless conversations took place about engineering, construction methods and the many practical decisions that quietly shape the final product. Most of these choices will never be visible to the owner, yet they have a significant impact on build quality, production efficiency and long term reliability. It is a good example of the role a yard can play in helping turn a vision into a yacht that is ready for production.

The best yachts are not only well designed. They are well considered, long before the first hull is built.

JEFF: OFF TO HER NEW HOME

After months of careful restoration, “Jeff” has left VMG Yachtbuilders.

Built in 1923, this remarkable Dunkirk Little Ship has been restored in close collaboration with oliviervanmeerdesign. She is now on her way to Dinant, Belgium, where she will join another familiar VMG Yachtbuilders and Olivier van Meer Design project: the beautifully restored saloon boat “Sally”.

Over the past months, “Jeff” has undergone an extensive restoration. From preserving her original wooden hull and rebuilding key structural elements to creating a completely renewed interior and deck layout, every step has been carried out with respect for her history, craftsmanship and character.

Watching “Jeff” leave the yard is a proud moment for everyone involved. We are grateful for the trust the owner has placed in VMG Yachtbuilders and Olivier van Meer Design by entrusting us with both “Jeff” and “Sally”. We wish them many wonderful years together on the water.

In one of our next updates, we'll take you behind the scenes of the complete restoration and share the remarkable story of “Jeff”, from her role in Operation Dynamo to the craftsmanship behind her transformation.

PUFFIN 42 "FINA"

Her name is “Fina”. She is the first of the new generation “Puffin 42”, designed by Olivier van Meer Design and built by VMG Yachtbuilders.

From the decision to leave her hull bare aluminium to the first miles under sail, every stage of this project had a clear purpose. A tough explorer yacht, but one that remains comfortable, balanced and easy to handle.

Now she is sailing. And after testing her in winds ranging from 6 to 24 knots, the first results confirm exactly what we hoped for.
But how did she get there?

We have put the full story of “Fina” online. From the first decisions and hull construction to her interior, technical systems, launch and first sailing trials.
