Technical industries are facing a shortage of available talent all over the . Twente region is not only known by the large pallet of companies which are active on the market, but also by the of students’ differences which shape the university life of and of Twente.
One prominent problem in the region of is the tendency of graduate students of the region (University of Twente, Saxion etc.) to seek elsewhere. This poses a high problem for the region as talent leaves the area leaving behind a lot of companies in high need of new . To keep the development and innovation of the manufacturing and engineering industry in the region, the most important step is to keep people in this area. A lot of companies are not sure how achieve this or where to start and what means are available.
There is a need in the impact a environment can have in a company and how to facilitate one, therefore, research must be initiated to explore the topic, identify the needs and nevertheless, provide solutions.
The Municipality of Enschede, Young Twente Board with KTIT, Fraunhofer Project Center, and University of Twente initiated and financed a research project, Diversity of Twente, on which FEST dives into the topic. The research involves the analysis of internal structures of the manufacturing, engineering, and software companies of the region, collecting data about the benefits that diverse work environments can have in a company and consecutively the region to identify what characteristics define such diverse environments.
Through the findings the goal is to create for companies in the fields of engineering and manufacturing to assess their own levels for accommodating a diverse workforce.
It would therefore be very useful to hear from the technical industries themselves about their views on the topic of diversity and together to connect talent to companies more successfully.
