Private jet is almost brought down by a bundle of 20 party BALLOONS floating above London City Airport
" The Cessna 560 was leaving London City airport when the pilot saw the balloons
" A group of 20 black and yellow balloons floated into the private jet's path
" The pilot was forced to knock-off the autopilot and turn to avoid the balloons
" The UK Airprox Board said there was a 'definite risk of collision' with the balloons
" A bundle of party balloons caused a business jet's flight crew to shout 'watch out!' and take avoiding action shortly after take-off from London City Airport.
" The Cessna 560 reached an altitude of 2,300 feet when the near miss occurred, the UK Airprox Board (UKAB) said.
" One of the pilots on board spotted a group of 20 black and yellow balloons up to three metres wide approaching the aircraft and shouted 'watch out!' to their colleague.

DUTCH PILOT SETS NEW YORK TO LONDON TIME RECORD
Dutch pilot Harold van Dam broke the record for quickest transatlantic flight by a subsonic aircraft while flying for budget airline Norwegian this week. Flying with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner carrying 284 passengers, Van Dam flew from New York to London in 5 hours and 13 minutes, breaking the previous record of 5 hours and 16 minutes, Norwegian announced.
"The 787 Dreamliner is a pleasure to fly and it's a great feeling to know that we have set a new record in this aircraft. We were actually in the air for just over five hours and if it had not been for forecasted turbulence at lower altitude, we could have flown even faster", Van Dam said. The plane reached a top speed of 1,249 kilometers per hour.
Another Norwegian pilot, Pascall Niewold, broke the top speed record also on the New York to London flight, also this week. His Boeing 787 Dreamliner reached a top speed of 1,254 kilometers per hour.

The future of cargo delivery? Boeing unveils a huge autonomous drone that can carry the weight of two baby elephants
• The drone is designed to transport massive payloads up to quarter-of-a-ton
• Boeing says it may use the heavy-duty quadrocopter to shift cargo in future
• The vehicle has already completed flight tests at a Boeing research centre
• The aerospace firm says the drone is a precursor to future self-flying craft

The aerospace firm, based in Chicago, Illinois, calls the vehicle an electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing (eVTOL) cargo air vehicle (CAV) prototype.
It dwarfs the average drone, measuring 4.6 meters long (15 ft), 5.5 metres wide (18 ft) and 1.2 metres (4 ft) tall.
The cargo can be attached to the drone with cables.
Boeing says the drone is a precursor to its future autonomous flying craft.
'This flying cargo air vehicle represents another major step in our Boeing eVTOL strategy,' said Boeing chief technology officer Greg Hyslop in a statement.
'We have an opportunity to really change air travel and transport, and we'll look back on this day as a major step in that journey.'

China-Built World’s Largest Amphibious Aircraft ‘Ready for Flight’
The maiden flight of the new aircraft will is expected to take place in the coming months
China’s indigenously designed and built Jiaolong (Water Dragon) AG600 seaplane took to the skies for the first time on December 24, according to Chinese state media.
The aircraft made its maiden flight, which was broadcast live on Chinese television, from land at Jinwan airport in Zhuhai, Guangdong, China. The flight lasted for about an hour. Following a successful landing, the AG600 taxied to its stand where it was greeted by fanfares and crowds waving Chinese flags.
Earlier this month, the AG600 — believed to be the world’s largest amphibious aircraft — has passed the official technical quality assessment, the last major hurdle before the seaplane’s first flight.
The technical stats of the AG600 are nevertheless impressive, as I wrote earlier this year:
The Boeing 737-sized AG600 aircraft is 37 meters long and has wingspan of 38.8 meters. Powered by four turboprop WJ-6 engines, the seaplane’s maximum take-off weight is 53.5 tons, its maximum cruising speed 500 kilometers per hour, and the maximum operational range without refueling 4,500 kilometers.
It purportedly can collect 12 tons of water in 20 seconds, and can transport a total of 370 tons of water in a single run.
The Chinese government has already placed an order for 17 AG600 aircraft and is considering purchasing an additional 53 in the coming years. Beijing also hopes to export the aircraft.

THIS IS WHY ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXCELLENT TRAINING FOR PILOTS IS A NECESSITY
Terrifying moment jet plane lurches to one side as it's battered by howling crosswinds while landing at Cologne Airport
• Footage shows Luftwaffe-marked Airbus A310 being battered by howling gales
• Plane lurches as it comes in to land with its left engine nearly touching tarmac
• Happened moments before another dramatic landing involving a passenger jet
• This is the terrifying moment heavy winds caused a military transport plane to lurch sideways as it touched down in Germany.
• Footage shows the Luftwaffe-marked Airbus A310 being battered by howling gales as it came in to land at Cologne airport.
• As one set of wheels touches the runway, the plane's wings tilt to the side with its left engine nearly coming into contact with the tarmac.
Fighting the gust, the pilot manages to maintain control of the aircraft with both sets of wheels finally touching down.
Once again, the crew of the Boeing 747 passenger jet expertly retain control of the aircraft, bringing it safely in to the terminal.

Woman threw a tantrum after they wouldn't give her more champagne on a plane, and had to pay $5,871 for causing an emergency landing !
A 44-year-old passenger sitting in business class was enraged when they wouldn't give more champagne.
The outburst caused an emergency landing, and the passenger had to pay a fine.
The flight from Moscow had to make an unscheduled stop in Stuttgart.
Police said in a statement Sunday that the passenger, who wasn't named, was escorted off the Airbus A320 and ordered to pay a security of 5,000 euros ($5,871).
They said the 43 passengers on board were never in danger, but the total cost involved in the unplanned stopover likely amounted to several tens of thousands of euros for the airline.

World's first 200mph two-seater flying sports car will hit the skies NEXT YEAR (and it could be yours for £90,000)
• The Switchblade is a 3-wheel car that can drive on the road and fly in the sky
• It takes off like other aircraft, meaning it must be launched from an airport
• The car can fly at a top speed of 200mph (320km/h) at an altitude of 13,000ft
• Samson says that prices for the flying car will start at £90,000 ($120,000)
Samson Motors has joined the race to have the first flying cars in the skies, with the world's first 200mph (320km/h) flying sports car, dubbed the Switchblade.
The Switchblade can cruise at an altitude of 13,000 feet and at a top speed of 200mph and is fitted with a safety parachute.
Samson Motors claims the car will be ready for launch in spring 2018, with prices starting at £90,000 ($120,000).
The Switchblade is a three-wheel car, designed by Oregon-based Samson Motors.
The car has two seats, and on the ground is 5.1 metres long.
But it also has extendable wings and a retractable tail that fold out, taking the car's length to 6.2 metres, meaning it can be used both on the road and in the sky.
On the ground, the Switchblade's top speed is 100mph (160 km/hour), while in the sky it can reach speeds of 200mph (320 km/hour).
Unlike vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) vehicles, the Switchblade can't takeoff from the road, and will need to be flown from regular airports.
A spokesperson for Samson said: 'You can drive the Switchblade to any public airport to take off, and may land at the same, or any other, public airport.
'You can also take off and land from any private airport where you have privileges.'

Nasa scientist blasts the hypocrisy of climate campaigners who emitted 30,000 tons of CO2 this weekend travelling to a global warming conference.
• Peter Kalmus is a climate researcher at Nasa's Jet Propulsion Laboratory
• He is calling on fellow scientists to think more about their carbon footprint
• Around 25,000 experts flew to the annual American Geophysical Union meeting
• Mr Kalmus is one of over 400 scientists calling on the AGU and others to reduce the need for flights to conduct climate science

Climate campaigners who emitted 30,000 tons of CO2 travelling by air to a global warming conference have come under fire from a Nasa colleague.
Peter Kalmus, an atmospheric researcher at the space agency's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, has highlighted what he sees as hypocrisy among his peers.
The expert decided not to attend the meeting, due to the effect flying has on the planet, and is calling on fellow scientists to think more about their carbon footprint.

8 Tips To Defeat Your Jetlag

1. Take a break in your own time zone!
I know… if you did you wouldn’t get to see awesome faraway places. But what you can do is to book your flight to the west in such a way that you arrive in the evening (local time) so that you can hop straight into bed! And, when travelling to the east, book a night flight and sleep on the aircraft. This is the best way to conquer jetlag!

2. Synchronised sleep
On entering the aircraft, reset your clock to the local time at your destination. This will enable you to adjust to your new time rhythm in terms of sleeping, eating, drinking, going to the loo, etc.

3. Hydrate!
Fair enough, it’s not like you’re wandering around aimlessly in a desert. But it is incredibly important to drink (lots of) water during and after a flight. This is because dehydration is one of the biggest causes of jetlag. Coffee and alcohol tend to dry the body out, so unfortunately you would be well advised not to drink these beverages! Or would you rather suffer from jetlag?

4. Be the most “chilled” version of yourself
Head off to the airport an hour before you otherwise would. In any event, make a hotel booking for the first night. Film yourself switching off the gas at home. In short, do everything necessary to be the most relaxed version of yourself! Stress is also a primary cause of jetlag. Need help relaxing? Under exceptional circumstances, you could get some melatonin from the chemist – this will definitely help you to relax.

5. Daylight is your best friend
It’s often the main reason for going on holiday: sunshine! Not only do you get vitamin D from sunshine, making you feel fitter, it’s the quickest way to adjust your internal clock to the new time zone! Your brain registers sunlight as follows: “Hey! Sunlight! We better stay awake!” And if there’s no sun? Daylight gets the job done too!

6. Power Siesta
You’ll often hear that you should force yourself to stay awake even though you’re completely broken. Seriously, were not living in the Middle Ages! Don’t torture yourself; take a nap in the afternoon. But be sure to set three or four alarm clocks to get you up after half an hour at most.

7. Run away from jetlag
You may not have intended to play sport on holiday – but movement is also therapeutic. Consider going for a walk! Jetlag is more likely to overcome you if you don’t keep moving. This also enables you to stay awake longer and tires your body out so that you’ll be able to sleep when you “need to”.

8. Be “one” with it
If you don’t find sufficient solace in this blog, you may consider “acceptance” as the answer. You’re having a holiday or you’ve just had one and have scores of amazing memories. So getting a good night’s rest isn’t the end of the world. A small price to pay!

Hero Flybe pilot is praised for crash-landing a plane with a missing front wheel and 56 people on board in the airline's SECOND landing gear failure in months.
- The Flybe Bombardier Dash 8 took off from George Best Airport at 11.07am for a flight to Inverness
- After departing, the crew noticed a warning claiming there was a problem with the aircraft's nose wheel
- The crew circled at 3,800 feet for about an hour while they attempted to trouble-shoot the issue
- After declaring an emergency, the aircraft circled for another hour before landing at the International Airport
- It comes months after a Flybe plane was evacuated when its landing gear collapsed at Amsterdam's Schiphol
A hero pilot has been praised after a Flybe aircraft dramatically crash landed in Belfast without its front wheel - the airline's second landing gear failure in months.
Fifty two passengers and four crew members were on board Flybe flight BE331 to Inverness when it carried out an emergency landing with the front of the aircraft unsupported.
It comes just months after a Flybe plane from Edinburgh was evacuated when its landing gear collapsed during touchdown at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport.
Today the Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 was forced to circle at 3,800 feet after the pilot realised there was a problem with the nose gear just moments after the aircraft's 11:20am take-off from George Best Airport in Belfast.
After an hour of trying to work out how to fix the problem mid-air the captain declared an emergency and continued to circle in a bid to burn off fuel before attempting to land with just two of the plane's three wheels working.
