Caterpillar 3508B Locomotive Engine Rebuild – Step by step

1️⃣ Disassembly
Full teardown of the V8 block, cylinder heads, crankshaft, pistons, and ancillaries.

2️⃣ Cleaning & inspection
Chemical cleaning and dimensional inspection of all components.

3️⃣ Replacement of parts
Bearings, seals, gaskets, pistons, liners, and valve train components replaced with original CAT parts.

4️⃣ Assembly to spec
Built to customer-specified arrangement 135-1751, clockwise rotation.

5️⃣ Installation of ancillaries
Electric starter, alternator, instrument panel, explosion relief valve, fuel cooler, and fuel priming pump fitted.

6️⃣ Independent test bench validation
Performance and load test at the certified Pon Power test bench.

📋 Result: 820 bkW @ 1,500 RPM, serial prefix 5PS, independently verified and ready for worldwide delivery.

Projects going on at Diesel Power Holland:

A regular customer asked us to build a Caterpillar 3512B Locomotive Engine. We fully disassembled, cleaned and inspected the unit, then replaced all bearings, cylinder heads, cylinder packs, injectors, seals and gaskets. And painted it pink...

After reassembly, the engine completed a full test run on a Caterpillar test bench. We painted it and delivered it to our customer, ready for operation.

Measured, tested and documented before it leaves our workshop. That is the difference between used and verifiably reliable.
