Quench three
One fire, eight new pieces, one by one you’ll see them entering the bath. It is the final initiation that serves two functions. One - it defines and strengthens the contrast of the patterns these pieces still hide - after the quench they are only slightly visible, later they will be revealed with much more depth. Two - the heat-shock gives the pieces a final movement as it warps it in all directions, directions I would not choose, directions I do not come up with. It is the last “giving to the natural hand” gesture that puts the notion on surrender and god.
