It all started with the company Meijn & Koning. September 7, 1959 is the founding date of the company, when the village smithy C.J. Buishand in Oostzaan is acquired by Cees Meijn and Cor Koning. As Cees is only 16 years of age, his father Piet signs for his share. Cor Koning (1932-1994) is 27 years old at the time, and marries Guurtje (Gré) just over a week later. The year before, Guurtje received her retailer’s certificate, entitling her to actually establish the business.
