Michael Mahal is a Solar PV energy specialist with more than a decade in developing and operating solar projects. He started his renewable energy career as a project engineer for design-build engineering, procurement, and construction contractors in the New York City area. He has subsequently executed a wide range of residential, commercial, and utility-scale solar projects.

Since transitioning into an owner/investor role, he has focused on the deployment of distributed portfolios across the US in collaboration with municipalities, school districts, and local installation partners. 🏛️ On May 18, the European Commission published its REPowerEU Plan, which modifies the Fit for 55 package to reduce dependence on Russian fossil fuels and accelerate the transition to clean energy. The policy measures highlighted below require additional action at the EU Council and Member States.

Energy Efficiency Directive: increased from 9% to 13% Renewable Energy: increased from 40% to 45%, or approximately 1,236 GW by 2030
☀️ Solar Energy: bring online more than 320 GW of solar by 2025 and 600 GW by 2030
🟢 Green Hydrogen: 10 million tonnes of domestic production and 10 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen imports, up from 4 million tonnes
🛢️ Biomethane: 35 billion cubic meters of production

The EU Energy Council on Monday agreed to raise the 2030 EU-level target for renewable energy sources in the overall energy mix to 40% from at least 32% now and also endorsed certain sub-targets and faster permitting procedures.
