Acid Solder Club ACID SOLDER CLUB is a DIY Electronics Workspace in Utrecht (NL) with events, workshops and meetups!

mailinglist: https://mailchi.mp/ecb0b914ea08/acid-solder-club-1?fbclid=IwAR256Xct466fmKnOvVrfTEF25BiH7Op5c6r68fymOilUQP9rGegU2wTd1Ks Acid Solder Club was founded by electronics and soldering freak Veerle Pennock in 2019 in Utrecht, The Netherlands. It started with an idea and wish for creating a new type of maker space with more focus on DIY electronics, hardware hacking, sensors and interaction,

electronic instruments and interface design, and of course most important: soldering! Acid Solder Club’s aim is to be a communal playground, where through various meetups and workshops, knowledge and skills regarding soldering, (DIY) electronics and much more can be shared amongst the community. From hermit hobbyists, young and old, beginner and advanced, artists and musicians looking for a new technological skills to conquer and master! Acid Solder Club is a place where we try to work on a peer-to-peer learning environment and support system together, where there is not one teacher just ‘sending signals’ outwards, but to build a strong community system where we can learn from each other.

It’s time for making the TAPE LOOP SUPER STATION in the Acid Solder Club studio! ⚡️the sun’s out and spring cleaning’s in the air. Workspace neighbour and tape superstar was cleaning out his studio last week and some new tape decks were donated to the shop for repairs and the supertape corner. ❤️

I’m doing some repairs on a few units today, while figuring out the layout of the reel to reel tape corner and these machines in general. 🌀🌀it’s close to the community modular system and Steim Zwarte Dozen 5U modular for some live recording and overdubbing! Also including a mixer for routing external signals!

The workspace is in full swing! Tonight’s another full Acid Solder Session and new dates coming up!

Why not to design at 3Am while on synth diy zoomies.. 🐈‍⬛⚡️ill take a closer look at this monster of pcb fix that became quite the untertaking! Grrrrr!

This was my first take on a clock divider and sequencer control center for circuit bend toys and hardware hacked machines somewhere 2024, made it didnt work and has been looking at me for ages to workout what I messed up (spoiler. A lot!)

Ohhhhh jup started at 3am or so, just kept adding things to what was a simple schematic: 2 build in LfO’s why not?! Ah maybe an option for external trigger sync and buildin 40106 schmittie trigger. Cv and gate out but WHY not add another patchbay for maybe future lols!? And vactrols and doodles and jaj. Early morning it is.

Send it to the manufacturer no idea whats gonna happen ground planes unconnected, wrong chips ordered (40174 instead of 4017 but im getting glasses soon;) oh why would one want to connect the +8 V from the regulator to the chips, would be handy… sure! 🥸

I dont know hope this story prevents you from making makin my idiot mistakes, but honestly will probably do this again and it’s the way it goes sometimes😂 let this be a start of a new series which is “Fixing inventions Veerle build that failed” or something, but with more why and how it got fixed.

Lifes trial and error.

Now it works and its a mess everywhere.

Again.

Bye!

The warm sound of tube oscillators with the Philips Philicorda AG7500, and the AG7600 amp bring a whole new oempf to the studio. 💥

The slowly warmup phase of the tubes, is just fascinating to watch over and over again, and what an amount of work to make and maintain these units while time nibbels away on it’s components.

I dont think tubes will ever dissapear, in a world where new tech innovations follow eachoter close after another, the uniqueness of Tube amps, synths and other devices is something we will cherish for a long time… ❤️

This tube based Philips EL3581 recorder is over 60 years old, and still servicable! ⚡️These machines were made to be serviced and working on them takes quite the deep dive understanding circuits, components and care.

Keeping them alive and kicking, also means this knowledge stays alive, and to my feeling its worth preserving so that mucisans, artist, makers and hobbyist can enjoy their designs, sounds and voices. They are unmissable in history, and working on these kind of devices a daily practice.

Whats your favourite repair job or most terrible experience of a serviced machine? Lemme know! Let’s keep this knowledge alive! 💪

The custom designed and 3D printed led’s look neaaaaaat on the drumcomputer oealallaaa!🚨😍

After troublesome uninspiring searches on the big webs for this vintage look square soft light leds a few months back, me and Unze decided to custom design these in Blender, 3D print them, and with some iterations later… place some dollhouse type leds inside them and damn they look fine. If your interested in these kind of leds let me know I will consider selling them in the workshop in a pack of multiples :)

They can to be a bit brighter, there 12v leds running on 9v triggers with hi-side drivers, but we’ll look at that later :) for now, time for a bierje after this morning, day and evening of soldering! 🍺

This organ was one of 5 that were donated/horded/salvaged a while back from electronic organs that were too far broken to be fully restored. So bits and pieces are now converted into new standalone midi drummachines, keyboards and synths.

The drum pcb of this KAWAI organ was donated by studio neighbour !

24/01/2026

Saturday night project time:) working on programming KAWAI BEATS midi controlled salvaged electronic organ drumcomputer adding new interface designs. Midi option as wel as premade patterns, speed control and step lenght maybe a jungle rhythm mangler mode of some sorts. 🙌

Midi notes from keystep since I keep somehow forgetting every month for the past halfyear that I sold my beatstep pro 🤣.

Adding some leds next for drum indicators as well and frontpanel controls. See ya laterrrrrrrr! 🥁

Relay sequencing with ‘s two 1606 Electro-Magnetic Switch modules that have been added tot the workshops community modular system! So much fun to play around with these two and make new rhythms and patterns, speeding up the bpm and making the relays clack clack clack! 🥁

This tastes like more, defenitely checkout Mitch’s work and modules if your not familiar yet!

Two more weeks to go to visit Ramsgate and for giving a synth diy soldering workshop at the museum and a short UK roadtrip with !

2 more spots left for signing up for the workshop!
Go go go go share if you have friends in the area or swing by the museum for a soldering morning and museum visit afternoon! 🚐💥💨

It’s the season of skills and knowledge exploration, and that means… its time for another PCB DESIGN COURSE in Kicad at ⚡️

Ever wanted to turn your breadboard chaos into something a bit more solid? Learn step-by-step how to design your own circuit board using KiCad, where we cover schematic designing to PCB layouts that are ready to order!

What you’ll learn:
• KICAD basics + librairy management
• Building a simple 555 timer or drone circuit together
• Linking symbols to footprints
• Creatinf a footprint/symbol from scratch
• Routing traces + layout strategy in the PCB editor
• Common mistakes + insider tips and tricks by Veerle
• How PCB manufacturing actually works and looks into their requirements.

😎Why design your own PCB?
Because it’s satisfying to make something that lasts and is somwhat stable, repeatable, and ready to share or sell. Once you get it, you’ll see PCB design isn’t that scary at all. This course covers all the basics of this process wheter you want to make pcb’s for soundmachines, retro gaming carteiges, household appliances and gadgets, we all make the same design and then you can apply that knowledge to your own project after the course.

This workshop is for anyone with basic electronics knowledge who wants to move beyond the breadboard, and had some prior knowledge in the basics of electronics, components and schematic reading.

📍 Workshop on 29th of November 10:00-16:00
📍 Workshop on 17th of January 10:00-16:00

Both are the same workshop, but given on different days.

Yesss! The Acid Solder Sessions are back again for a new season! ⚡️ These open lab event series fell on the background a bit due to uncontrollable obsolete machine diving, diy kit developments and soldering workshops over the summer, gigs, other electronic obsessions and what not. But finally found time to restart this event series again! Yay!

I know you have waited for these for quite a while and theres multiple days on thursdays, saturday and sundays in oktober, november and december!

These events and get togethers have always been the backbone of Acid Solder Club, and provide a suitable workspace and social get together for the diy synth and electronics community 🙌 So im very exited for what curiosities, projects, machines and inventions will pass the workspace!

More info on the website (link in bio and story) and what these events are all about and how to reserve a spot!

What to bring:
DIY Electronics, synths, eurorack kits, standalone synth kits, gitar pedals, circuit bend devices, drummachine mods, robotics, inventions, midi things, noise boxes, vintage gear, solenoid en motor madness, interactive interfaces and more!

Nothing to bring? 🧳
Get a soldering diy kit at the workspace (check availability via mail or on location) or mess around with super simpel circuits, do some soldering practice, jamout on the community modular system or whatever is turned on in the studio! Meet likeminded folks or get inspired by all the junk and synths to discover new ideas. 💡

Don’t wait too long with signups, theres only 6 spots per event because the workshop is not so big and we like to keep it gezellig and small, so theres space to ask questions and not feel lost in the crowd. Tickets are 15 euros and your support helps in keeping Acid Solder Club going strong into the beeping future! 💪 ⚡️
