The foundation of Nemag.

The company started under the name: Machinefabriek en scheepsreparatie G. van Ameijden & A. Grootveld.

A machine factory in Rotterdam, focused on mechanical engineering and ship repair. Demand for the workshop’s expertise grew quickly. By 1929, the blacksmiths relocated to create more working space.

In 1932, the company continued under a new name: Nemag
An acronym for Nederlandse Machinefabriek van Ameijden en Grootveld.

What began as a local machine factory steadily evolved built on craftsmanship, technical precision, and resilience during economically challenging times.

A century later, those same foundations still define how we work.

At the start of the new school year, 16-year-old Moya joined Nemag as a BBL apprentice in partnership with Werk & Vakmanschap.

After obtaining her secondary school diploma before the summer, she is now starting the level 3 All-round Production Technology programme. This allows her to combine her education with practical experience. Her ambition is clear: she wants to become a welder.

At Nemag, we strongly believe technical craftsmanship is best developed by learning, practising and working alongside experienced colleagues. We are really proud to give young talent like Moya the opportunity to build both her skills and her future.

Next to that, we are especially pleased to welcome a young woman with a passion for welding to our team.

Met ingang van het nieuwe schooljaar is de 16-jarige Moya bij Nemag gestart als BBL’er, in samenwerking met Werk & Vakmanschap.

Voor de zomervakantie behaalde ze haar MAVO-diploma. Deze maand begint ze aan de opleiding Allround Medewerker Productietechniek op niveau 3. Zo combineert ze haar opleiding met praktijkervaring in onze werkplaats. Haar ambitie is vanaf de start al duidelijk: ze wil lasser worden.

Bij Nemag geloven we dat technisch vakmanschap zich het beste ontwikkelt door te leren, te oefenen en samen te werken met ervaren collega’s. Daarom geven we jonge talenten zoals Moya graag de ruimte om aan hun vaardigheden en hun toekomst te bouwen.

We zijn extra trots dat we een jonge vrouw met een passie voor lassen in onze werkplaats mogen verwelkomen.

But not everything in our workshop is serious all the time. Behind the helmets and protective gear are people who enjoy what they do, and take pride in it. Sometimes that simply shows with a thumbs up.

Because building heavy-duty grabs isn’t just about steel and precision.
It’s also about enjoying the work you do, together.

Maar in onze werkplaats hoeft het niet altijd serieus te zijn. Achter de helmen en beschermende kleding staan mensen die plezier hebben in hun werk én trots zijn op wat ze maken. Soms blijkt dat simpelweg uit een duim omhoog.
Want het bouwen van grijpers voor het zware werk draait niet alleen om staal en precisie.
Het gaat er ook om dat je samen plezier beleeft aan het werk dat je doet.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻-𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹: 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴.

In this transshipment operation, coal is transferred from barges into a larger ocean-going vessel.

At the heart of the process is a Nemag grab, designed to handle large volumes of dry bulk material efficiently and reliably, cycle after cycle.

Combined with the vessel and crane configuration engineered by KTU Shipyard, the grab helps support a continuous loading process and keeps the operation moving from barge to vessel.

A strong example of how the right grab contributes directly to productivity and reliability in demanding transshipment operations.

Nemag has a rich history of supporting the Dutch government and the people of Rotterdam in rebuilding the city after the war a time where Nemag struggled too.

A harbour in ruins. A city rebuilding.

With specially engineered grabs, Nemag helped clear destroyed quay walls from the water, lifting pieces weighing up to 60,000 kg.

As the port came back to life, Nemag grabs helped unload ocean liners and restore the flow of goods.

A story of craftsmanship, resilience and engineering precision that still defines Nemag today.

Steel production depends on a continuous and reliable supply of dry bulk materials. From iron ore and coal to limestone, scrap and other additives, every material behaves differently during unloading.

Small variations in filling consistency, cycle times, trimming or equipment behavior can gradually affect vessel turnaround, berth planning and overall operational performance. These inefficiencies are not always immediately visible, but they can accumulate across hundreds of unloading cycles.

𝗔 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿.

Last week, we gathered with colleagues for the annual Nemag summer barbecue.

After a busy first half of the year, it was a good moment to come together outside the usual working environment. With the barbecues fired up, drinks on the table and several games to enjoy, there was plenty of time to catch up, laugh and spend time with colleagues from across the company.

These informal moments are valuable. They strengthen the connection between people who work together every day, whether in the workshop, in engineering, in the office or on the road.

A big thank you to everyone who helped organize this afternoon and to all colleagues who joined.
