Inmiddels brand de massakachel dagelijks een paar keer in 24 uur (zoals te zien is op de video) en verwarmt het hele huis echt goed!

What is a Houtleem storage heater?

A Houtleem storage heater is inspired by Eastern European storage heaters and modern techniques such as rocket stove mass heaters, and has a type of metal radiator inside that enables a rapid heating process.

Accumulation, on the other hand, allows the heat to be retained even after the stove has been switched off for 24 hours. This is similar to what a stone wall does with the heat of the sun.

It is advisable to place the stove in a central location, such as the heart of the house.

An important aspect is that these stoves use relatively little wood compared to traditional wood-burning stoves and can reach 1000 degrees, but you will never get burnt outside the clay stove.

Smoke with little polluting residue and heat of only 60° is emitted.

What is the stove made of?

It is made of:

Heavy bricks, clay and sand to create a mass of 1800 to 3000 litres, depending on the size and power of the stove.

A combustion chamber in refractory lightweight bricks and clay.

A metal drum, invisible inside the stove, for rapid heating.

Door with fireproof glass and integrated frame.

There are different sizes to heat a specific house, all according to the size of the chimney. For example, a Rocket 2.0 (200 mm chimney) can adequately heat a well-insulated house of 100 m2 and a Rocket 1.5 (150 mm chimney) can heat 50 m2. A cooker-stove also has a similar heating capacity if a similar amount of mass is added.

Paul Pelgrom designs the stove in consultation with the customer.

You can choose a stove with or without rapid room heating, or a stove where you can cook with a storage(mass) that also heats the house. You can also choose a more organic or modern design shape and colours with natural pigments from the Yosima catalogue or clay in pure form.
