A bit outside our typical production scope, but a good example of practical problem solving.
A customer contacted DSM AS regarding an urgent keyway machining requirement.
Upon inspection, it became clear that the issue extended beyond a missing keyway.
Both the shaft and mating pulley showed significant wear, resulting in approximately 5 mm of play.
Rather than simply machining a new keyway into a worn assembly, we addressed the root mechanical issue:
• Weld build-up and restoration of shaft surfaces
• Re-machining to restore geometry
• Pulley modification
• Integration of taper bush solution
All work was completed in-house, from technical assessment through final machining and assembly.
In cases like this, machining alone is not always the solution.
Understanding the complete mechanical system is essential to achieving a durable and reliable result.
