Winter wounds are no longer just a health issue in salmon farming, especially in cold-water strongholds like Norway. They have become a serious welfare challenge that is increasingly eroding yield and margins across the sector.

This new article unpacks why winter wounds have become so difficult to manage and explores the evolving farmer’s toolbox, from new vaccines and farm management to functional feeds and AI-supported welfare monitoring.

🤝 Put blue carbon innovators in one place, and real projects start to move.

💡 A couple years back, Hatch Blue hosted the first-of-its-kind innovation programme to unlock blue carbon as a novel carbon absorption solution. Participants told us the program helped them refine their business models and develop their network across the blue carbon ecosystem.

In 2026, we’re building on that momentum with the Blue Catalyst Challenge in Singapore – a two-week in-person program (11–22 May) for startups, scaleups and technology providers tackling the toughest MRV and implementation challenges in blue carbon.

🇸🇬 Blue Catalyst is a first-of-its-kind open innovation challenge in Singapore, organized by Hatch Blue and WWF-Singapore with the support of Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB). It harnesses technology to tackle the toughest technical and operational barriers in blue carbon MRV and implementation, so high-integrity projects can grow where they’re needed most.

🌍Advancing a sustainable blue economy sector begins with maximising success from the early stages of company-building for our Global Accelerator. Here’s what we’ve accomplished with our Accelerator Fund II deployments:

Across 2023 - 2025, 31 early-stage companies in aquaculture and the wider oceans sector were handpicked for our flagship Accelerator program to receive world-class exposure to different aquaculture ecosystems, market realities, and cross-border innovation.

In just 4 iterations, we conducted 83 site-specific visits in 3 continents; held or supported 28 regional in-person events including 4 Demo Days/Investor Days where we attracted 500+ attendees; and partnered with 80+ global experts for subject matter workshops, tailored to maximise every company’s positive impact, without counting the 1-on-1 relationships they have made and will continue to nurture.

From Hawai‘i’s diverse production environments, to the deep aquaculture expertise of Norway, to dynamic innovation hubs in Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam, every individual of the Accelerator engaged with the world’s foremost expertise on sustainable seafood systems, tech-enabled farming, and blue economy opportunity.
