Hystar and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) have signed a Strategic Collaboration Agreement to enable the phased local manufacturing of ultra-efficient PEM electrolysers based on Hystar's technology for green hydrogen projects in India.

By combining Hystar's technology with BHEL's extensive engineering, manufacturing and project ex*****on capabilities, the partnership charts a clear path towards cost-competitive, locally manufactured PEM electrolyser systems for the Indian market.

The agreement positions Hystar as a preferred technology partner to BHEL and marks a major milestone in our international expansion into one of the world’s largest emerging green hydrogen markets.

Fredrik Mowill, CEO of Hystar commented: "India will play a key role in the global transition to green hydrogen, and the collaboration with BHEL provides a clear path to deploy our unique technology in the Indian market. We look forward to a long-term collaboration while building local capabilities together with such a capable partner as BHEL.”

⚡️ Electricity is one of the largest operating costs in green hydrogen production.

That is why efficiency matters.

Hystar’s patented stack achieves around 47.5 kWh/kg of hydrogen, compared with approximately 53–54 kWh/kg for conventional PEM systems - delivering 10% higher stack efficiency.

For hydrogen projects, even small efficiency improvements can have a significant impact.

More efficient electrolysers mean more hydrogen produced from every megawatt of renewable electricity - helping to improve project economics from day one.

Safety starts with how an electrolyser is designed.

In conventional PEM electrolysers, hydrogen crossover to the oxygen side can become a challenge - especially during low-load operation or standstill, when gas management becomes more complex.

We addressed this fundamental challenge.

Our patented technology continuously ventilates the anode side with air, actively diluting any hydrogen that crosses over across the full operating range.

During standstill, water is actively displacing hydrogen on the cathode side. Rather than relying on hydrogen to diffuse out naturally, the remaining hydrogen is flushed out more quickly, helping the system reach a safe state as fast as possible.
